Medical Unit Clerk
to join the Medical Center in Moreno Valley, California.The immediate vacancy is with the Rehabilitation department, however the candidate pool generated from this posting may be used to fill additional bilingual Medical Unit Clerk positions within RUHS.If non-bilingual Medical Unit Clerk positions become available, the posting will be reopened.
Under supervision, the Medical Unit Clerk will perform a variety of clerical and administrative support duties, including:
Providing front desk reception and customer service Answering phones and assisting with inquiries Checking in patients Assisting the public and outside providers with scheduling services Verifying referral authorizations Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Rehab position) Location:
Main hospital campus, Moreno Valley Requirements:
Bilingual in Spanish Experience in a rehabilitation or medical clinic setting, scheduling patient appointments and navigating the referral process Strong customer service skills Prior experience with EPIC/insurance provider portals Meet the team! •Provides routine information as requested to staff, patients, visitors, and the public; greets patients and visitors; places calls to doctors, other medical units, and support units as directed.
•Tracks admissions, discharges, transfer, and room changes for census purposes; completes proper forms and records for patient admissions, transfers, discharges, examinations, and testing; may assemble, disassemble, update, and thin patient charts.
•Maintains unit files; runs errands and transports supplies, specimens, and other materials as needed; contacts or receives calls from hospital departments, hospitals, doctor's offices, or medical agencies to coordinate or schedule services for patients.
•Responds to established emergency procedures; assists in ordering stock supplies; may distribute mail, packages, and flowers to patients as necessary.
•May make clinic appointments for patients; may prepare birth certificates and identification bands as necessary; may perform incidental typing duties.
Experience:
One year of experience in clerical work, preferably in an
acute care
setting. Either or the following may be substituted for the required experience:
Completion of 18 semester or 24 quarter units from a recognized college in secretarial sciences, office practice, business education, medical assisting, or a closely related field; OR Completion of 360 hours of training from a recognized occupational training program in secretarial sciences, business education, medical assisting, or a closely related field.
Knowledge of:
Modern office practices and procedures, including filing and operating standard office equipment.
Ability to:
Understand and follow oral and written directions; perform general clerical work and learn quickly the specific operations of a medical treatment unit; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow employees; work effectively under stress and in emergency situations.
