Job Description
This position helps make gospel teachings, resources, or services accessible to all in a simple and affordable way, supporting the mission of the Church. The incumbent performs daily receiving, warehousing, selecting, and shipping tasks. Incumbents replenish, audit, inventory, document, ship materials domestically and internationally, and/or deliver commodities. The incumbent uses heavy material handling equipment such as forklifts, electric pallet jacks, automatic strapping equipment, and so on. Incumbents may work directly with customers, ecclesiastical leaders, and others to resolve order delays and make order corrections. They may drive cars and trucks to transport materials/ commodities and may take physical inventories. This position provides entry or training level warehousing experience in which the incumbent performs various receiving, stores, and/or shipping functions under close supervision.
Responsibilities
Specific work performed may vary considerably between different departments for this position. However, duties would be of similar complexity and difficulty to those in the following list:
35-60% Performs general material handling/warehousing duties involving receiving, storing, inventorying, shipping, and disbursing materials/commodities. Picks orders and prepares pallets for shipment. Processes materials using postal manifest and meter equipment. Loads and unloads trucks. 10-30% Reviews and interprets shipping documents, verifies quantities, inspects for damage, determines country of origin and specific language code for international materials, and prepares receiving and inventory records. Records weight and dimension figures on all new items for warehouse management system.
10-60% May drive small or medium-sized trucks to deliver materials/commodities to specific locations and pick up materials/commodities from vendors on a regular basis. Assists supervisor in ensuring vehicles are properly maintained, licensed, and operating safely. Completes and submits logs and reports on vehicle as required.
5-10% Assists in maintaining equipment, building, grounds, and keeps appropriate records as assigned. Incumbents may be required to assist in loading 40 foot trailers for shipment or prepare pallets of assorted materials for worldwide shipping, requiring special knowledge in order to balance the load to meet weight, space, and distribution requirements.
Qualifications
Requires a High School diploma or equivalent with basic math and computer skills. Preference will be given to those with previous warehousing, material handling, or related work experience. Experience in operating motorized material handling equipment including forklifts preferred. Must be able to become Church certified within 6 weeks of hire. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be able to read and understand English. If driving required, a valid operator's license is required that is appropriate for the vehicle(s) to be driven. Must be able to physically lift/move/push/pull items (up to 50 lbs. alone or occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. with two people), climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps to store/retrieve items, and operate a pallet jack containing up to 2,500 lbs. Must be willing to attend training in the first year of employment to better understand lean and continuous improvement principles.
