We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Executive Officer to join our leadership team. This is a unique opportunity to lead and grow a thriving organization alongside another dedicated professional. Upon hire, the selected candidate will serve as the Co-Executive Director, receiving the full benefit of a transition with the current Executive Director. On July 1, 2026, the selected candidate will move into the Chief Executive Officer role upon the retirement of the current Executive Director.

Position Overview The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the strategic and operational leader of the organization, responsible for advancing its growth, visibility, and long-term sustainability. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO provides vision, leadership, and oversight in five key areas: strategic leadership, public relations, revenue generation, organizational performance, and accountability for resources. The CEO partners with a dedicated staff and the Board of Directors to strengthen the organization’s position as a recognized leader in supporting families, schools, and communities in the State of Indiana.

Key Areas of Accountability

Strategic Leadership:

Collaborates with the Board of Directors on strategic planning, board development, advocacy, and external partnerships to ensure organizational sustainability. Develops and executes a comprehensive advancement strategy aligned with the mission and strategic priorities. Monitors trends in government priorities, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sector to anticipate challenges and identify new opportunities for impact.

Public Relations & External Engagement:

Serves as the primary spokesperson and ambassador, representing the organization in key leadership, policy, and community spaces across the state. Oversees branding, messaging, and public relations to ensure consistent, compelling communication with families, schools, donors, and stakeholders. Ensures all outreach channels—including website, social media, campaigns, and programs—reflect the organization’s mission and advancement goals. Builds strategic partnerships and coalitions with families, schools, government agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders.

Revenue Generation & Advancement:

Builds and maintains a diverse, sustainable funding portfolio beyond government funding. Achieves or exceeds annual fundraising targets through major gifts, planned giving, capital campaigns, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events. Establishes and monitors key performance indicators such as donor retention, gift growth, and pipeline development to ensure consistent revenue growth. Cultivates and stewards long‑term relationships with donors, corporate partners, foundations, and community leaders.

Organizational Performance & Culture:

Supervises and evaluates the leadership team, providing coaching, guidance, and professional development opportunities for all staff. Reviews project plans and outcomes to ensure alignment with goals, effective resource allocation, and measurable impact. Promotes an inclusive, collaborative, and mission‑driven culture that values diversity, attracts and retains talent, and supports staff at all levels. Ensures compliance with all board and employee policies, while maintaining a culture of accountability and transparency.

Accountability for Resources:

Oversees fiscal management, including approving all bids, grants, contracts, income, payroll, and expenses. Ensures resources are allocated and distributed effectively to maximize impact and sustainability. Provides the Board of Directors with regular reports on progress toward strategic goals, organizational health, financial status, and program outcomes.

Candidate Profile The ideal CEO will be:

A visionary leader with proven success in nonprofit management, fundraising, and state leadership relations.

Skilled in building sustainable funding streams while maintaining compliance with government funding requirements.

A compelling communicator and relationship-builder, able to engage stakeholders across diverse communities.

Experienced in managing and empowering staff while focusing on external growth and visibility.

Deeply committed to advancing positive outcomes for all families, schools, and communities.

Minimum Job Qualifications The ideal CEO would possess:

A college degree in a related field to marketing, public relations, nonprofit administration or other field as the Board deems adequate.

At least five years in a position of responsible leadership and supervision.

Experience working with a Board of Directors, preferred.

Proven experience with fundraising, grant writing, and working with a donor base.

Experience in managing multiple projects and overseeing many records.

Experience making decisions involving agency-level budgets.

Competence in the application of multiple computer programs.

Must have the capacity to work virtually. Work is performed in a variety of settings with frequent travel through the State of Indiana and possible national conferences. Evening and weekend work is required occasionally. Must be a resident of the State of Indiana.

Compensation Final compensation will be determined by the Board of Directors. However, a candidate can expect a salary range of $85,000-$90,000 annually. Benefits include 5% Board-paid 401(k) contribution, 94% Board-paid health insurance premium for single coverage or 78% Board-paid health insurance premium for dependent coverage, 100% Board-paid $20,000 group life insurance policy, and employee assistance program. We also offer voluntary life, voluntary short-term disability, and voluntary long-term disability insurance.
