About
The Environment Health Specialist supports Relay’s Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) efforts through focused work on incident response, injury reporting, safety training, and workers’ compensation administration. This position plays a key role in fostering a culture of safety and accountability across the organization. Essential Functions
Incident Response and Investigation – Conduct or assist with investigation of work-related injuries, vehicle accidents, and near miss incidents; document and track findings; maintain the EHS incident tracking system; support internal follow-up and coordinate follow-up inspections. Workers’ Compensation Support – Assist with claims filing, updates, and documentation; maintain communication with injured employees, supervisors, insurance representatives and medical providers; prepare summaries of claims status. Safety Training and Compliance Tracking – Maintain and track records for required safety training; support monthly safety training sessions; assist with First Aid/CPR training and certification tracking; input and organize training data in the EHS software platform. Safety Program Enhancement – Participate in safety audits and inspections; provide administrative support for Safety Committee activities; update safety communication materials; maintain inventory of safety equipment across sites; prepare reports for internal leadership and external partners. Requirements
Associate’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health or a related science or business field or equivalent work experience. 2+ years of relevant experience in safety, workers’ compensation, or risk management (preferred). CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire. Valid Driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and acceptable driving record. Ability to pass criminal background check and/or fingerprinting as needed. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, SharePoint, Adobe, DocuSign, and Asana or other task management tools. Experience working in mission-driven, nonprofit, or social enterprise environments. Experience working with a diverse employee population. Familiarity with ADA requirements, EHS regulations, and procurement best practices. Bilingual (Spanish or ASL preferred). Experience supporting hybrid and field-based teams across multiple locations. None. Work Environment & Physical Demands
Hybrid work environment with regular on‑site presence required. Must be able to inspect facilities and occasionally move light equipment or supplies. Use of various office systems and equipment, including service ticketing and digital collaboration tools.
