Project Engineer I role at GSI Engineering LLC. The Project Engineer I supports the successful execution of engineering projects by applying fundamental engineering principles to design, field assessments, and construction oversight. This role assists senior staff in collecting data, performing calculations, preparing reports, and coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders. The Project Engineer I is focused on skill development, quality execution, and safety in a collaborative team environment. Responsibilities
Assist with engineering analyses, calculations, and designs under the guidance of senior engineers. Support preparation of technical documents including specifications, drawings, and cost estimates. Participate in site visits, surveys, inspections, and field investigations. Contribute to project reports and documentation, ensuring accuracy and technical integrity. Help identify project risks and develop basic mitigation strategies. Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and clients on project deliverables and logistics. Ensure work complies with company procedures, safety standards, and applicable regulations. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Construction, or Geotechnical Engineering. 0–2 years of relevant industry experience. Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Ability to obtain EIT/FG certification within one year; interest in pursuing PE licensure. Familiarity with engineering and collaboration software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Office, Teams). Strong math, communication, and problem-solving skills. Basic knowledge of engineering principles and field construction practices. Travel Requirements
This position requires moderate travel, approximately up to 40% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be scheduled or on short notice depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required during travel and on-site work. Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position primarily works in an outdoor work environment, regularly exposed to varying field conditions, including sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, fields, and other uneven terrain with obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris. Moderate to loud noise levels, common in active construction and industrial environments. Exposure to environmental elements including dirt, dust, sun, heat, humidity, and adverse weather conditions. Physical requirements may include lifting and carrying 35 to 75 lbs. up to 75 feet, standing, walking, driving, and operating equipment for extended periods. Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment; ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, and push as required for fieldwork and inspections.
