Overview The Information Technology Group (ITG) develops, implements and maintains technology-based services enabling OHSU to manage information to accomplish its mission. This position is responsible for complex premise distribution systems across the OHSU campus, HMC/Tuality & Adventist and multiple off-campus clinics. It covers copper and optical fiber distribution for analog and digital communications, computer and audiovisual systems, DAS, alarm circuits, and sensory services. The role includes first-level restoration of services and ensuring compliance with FCC and state electrical codes, including EIA/TIA and BICSI standards. This ITG 24x7 work group position requires on-call rotations and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

Install, move, and modify telecommunications and related equipment per work order specifications and standards, including voice/data, copper/fiber, overhead paging, special circuits, grounding and power systems.

Provide connectivity support for local area network devices and workstations, and manage inter-building copper and fiber distribution systems.

Install special circuits for audio/video, data, and low voltage systems; support IP video emergency systems and related hardware.

Meet with customers to pre-field job locations, monitor inventory levels, and maintain accurate records of hours and work orders.

Maintain work orders in the system to track progress and completed tasks; perform additional incidental duties as needed.

Perform problem analysis and first-level restoration of services in response to end-user or system problems; repair or replace damaged or inoperable components; support LAN switches/UCs; escalate as required.

Utilize industry-standard test equipment for trouble shooting, installation, and certification of low voltage systems.

Verify database records and manage circuit and emergency circuit information.

Coordinate installation of low voltage cabling with the Infrastructure Design team and participate in cross-functional training within NETi/NWaE teams when applicable.

Qualifications Required

Two years of experience in the general Information Technology industry with experience installing, maintaining, and repairing telecommunications systems and related equipment (analog/digital, network and data infrastructure).

Experience with industry-standard testing equipment used for troubleshooting, installation, and certification of low voltage systems.

Excellent written, spoken and listening communication; strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Knowledge of construction practices, drawings, and compliance with codes, standards, laws, and policies.

Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently in a potentially stressful environment.

Knowledge of OHSU installation and maintenance standards and practices; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Independent judgment and responsibility in performing duties.

Current driver’s license; Current Oregon Limited Energy A or B licenses.

Preferred

Enrolled in an approved Oregon apprenticeship program or additional IT certifications (e.g., BICSI ITS, Optical Fiber, OTDR, Systimax, Levition, Ortronics).

Experience with overhead paging systems and A/V knowledge; programming and troubleshooting for telephone or specialty systems.

Familiarity with OHSU systems and tools (Pinnacle Work Order, Cable Management, Autodesk Design Review, Bluebeam, CommScope/Systimax, Berk-Tek/Ortronics/Berk-Tek/Levition standards).

Travel and Schedule Travel within and between OHSU campus locations and clinics; occasional on-call rotations. Work schedule typically Monday–Friday, with potential for overtime or shift changes as required by ITG operations.

Work Environment Work may occur in areas with variable noise levels and in designated “clean areas” requiring PPE or sterile processing practices when applicable. Employer provides equipment as required under AFSCME contracts.
