Physical Therapist I/II – California Children Services

Position Summary:
This full‑time permanent role provides physical therapy services to disabled pediatric children and youth aged 0‑21. The schedule is 9/80, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Physical Therapists conduct assessments and develop treatment plans to address disabilities, injuries, and diseases, using functional activity training (gait and transfer training, exercise, soft‑tissue mobilization, hydrotherapy, heat, sound waves, electrical stimulation, and more). They enhance functional independence and promote patient health.
Responsibilities
Assess functional status using objective evaluation techniques (manual muscle testing, ROM, sensory testing, gait analysis, bed mobility, transfers, balance, coordination).
Establish short‑ and long‑term treatment goals with patients and physicians.
Administer active, passive, and resistive therapeutic exercises; provide gait and muscle training; deliver hydrotherapy and wound assessment/management, including dressing and debridement.
Apply modalitiessuch as cryotherapy, ultrasound, traction, TENS, UV, and interferential therapy.
Educate patients, families, and caregivers on home exercise programs, safety, orthotics, prosthetics, and proper techniques for bed mobility, transfers, ambulation, sitting, and standing; recommend assistive devices.
Observe patient response, monitor progress, and reassess goals.
Complete daily documentation, Medicare/Medi‑Cal authorization records, and interdisciplinary conference participation.
Provide in‑service education on posture, body mechanics, lifting, positioning, and other therapy‑related topics.
Serve as clinical instructor for physical therapy interns as needed.
Knowledge of Principles and methods of assessment and treatment planning in physical therapy; roles of Physical Therapist and Assistant; neuromuscular function; kinesiology; human development; modalities; therapeutic equipment operation; safety techniques; indications and contraindications.
General knowledge of related therapeutic disciplines (occupational therapy, speech pathology) and their objectives.
Ability to Communicate and educate patients, families, and staff about physical therapy treatments; complete medical record documentation and statistics; assess and understand the impact of complex social situations on functional independence.
Qualifications
Licensed Physical Therapist by the California Board of Physical Therapy. (Eligible candidates may be employed pending successful licensure examination.)
Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association.
Valid California Driver’s License.
