Overview
The Field Service Engineer II for the Materials and Structural Analysis (MSD) Electron Microscopy (EM) division of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, servicing and repair of complex electron microscopy equipment and systems. This role involves educating customers on operation and maintenance, liaising with customers on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects, and installing the full range of Thermo Fisher Scientific electron microscopy systems and options. The position offers growth opportunities within Field Services and across Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Territory: up to 50% travel including overnights; primary travel to Buffalo, Ithaca, Syracuse, and Rochester, New York.
What you will do
As the primary regional field service engineer, ensure customer needs are met applying appropriate resources Conduct on-site installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure proper working order Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users and company personnel Successfully complete technical training and specialist training based on microscopes in the region Proactively seek out additional learning opportunities both inside and outside of the region Work with an applications engineer or attend an applications course to gain sophisticated knowledge Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel Complete and submit field service reports Be able to perform Preventative Maintenance on assigned tools Partner with colleagues to acquire technical guidance needed to problem-solve systems solutions Provide training for customers and users on system maintenance Make yourself available to train and mentor new field service engineers Provide feedback to product quality teams Provide appropriate input in writing updating and correcting various Thermo Fisher system documentation Provide recommendations for various reports including identifying and isolating unique problems with system Act as a subject expert and resource for training Must maintain Thermo Fisher Scientific’s 4i Values Minimum Education & Experience
University degree/Bachelor degree in electronics, physics, engineering, computer science or similar field preferred; or 2+ years of equivalent combination of education, skills and experience 2+ years' experience with operating, troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating complex analysis tools such as SEM, TEM, FIB, Prober or similar systems is a plus but not required Experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) a plus but not required Experience operating oscilloscopes, digital voltmeter and logical problem solving Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Demonstrated ability to lead/coach others Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical issues Ability to partner effectively with customers and colleagues Able to take lead on difficult customer critical issues Understanding and extensive experience troubleshooting and repairing ultrahigh vacuum and high voltage systems Excellent interpersonal communication, collaboration, time management, organizational, problem solving, conflict management and customer service skills Proven ability to fix complex systems and subsystems down to component level Ability to read and interpret schematics Familiar with UHV phenomena and technology Fluent reading, writing and speaking English Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision Detail oriented, problem solver, team-oriented Ability to maintain confidentiality for customers and Thermo Fisher Scientific Literate in Windows software environments Willing to travel 25-50% of the time Must possess a valid driver’s license and passport and travel regionally and internationally as required May require proof of Covid-19 vaccination Extensive walking may be required May work at customer locations, in office environments and in laboratory environments Must be able to secure entrance to US Government laboratories and facilities Potentially pass through areas where chemical-based allergens may be in use Personal protective equipment may be worn as required Physical requirement: ability to lift up to 50 lbs Compensation And Benefits
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in New York is $28.85-$43.27. This position may also be eligible for a variable annual bonus.
