Job Summary This position works in the field directing Instrument Person(s) and completes houseline surveying services, topographic surveys, tree surveys, wetland surveys, boundary surveys, and ALTA surveys. They also complete control surveys and bench loops, as well as construction staking services within quality standards.
Accountability and Duties
Ensures timesheets are submitted accurately and on time.
Provides an accurate accounting of time spent on projects with descriptions for each time entry on a daily basis.
Keeps supervisors informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
Maintains a good relationship with clients and staff.
Works closely and coordinates with staff and site superintendents.
Understands and accurately uses all field survey instruments.
Properly maintains and takes care of field equipment.
Obtains & reads information for the daily projects.
Maintains and electronically files legible field notes and sketches.
Successfully uploads and downloads data files to/from collector.
Successfully uploads and downloads calibration files to/from collector.
Responsible for stocking the company vehicle each morning (supplies & equipment).
Properly maintains, cleans, and takes care of field vehicle.
Accurately completes houseline, topographic, tree, wetland, boundary, ALTA, control, bench loop, construction staking, and as-constructed surveys.
Checks control sheets and block sheets and coordinates information with office surveyors.
Understands and accurately uses Trimble Business Center and other required software.
Makes independent decisions within the general framework of projects.
Checks in with the client (on-site) upon arrival and departure daily.
Communicates with Survey Project Manager and/or Staff Surveyor on a daily basis.
Completes projects efficiently and within Manhard quality standards.
Mentors and trains Instrument persons and Survey Interns.
Mentors and trains Engineers and Surveyors cross training in field.
Accurately completes commercial building column staking services.
Understands engineering plans and reviews for potential field problems.
Efficiently coordinates multiple field staff on job sites.
Finds ways to improve the use and understanding of field equipment and software.
Looks for opportunities to improve standard procedures and quality standards.
Demonstrates leadership qualities and mentors other crew chiefs.
Completes construction calculations and block sheets in CAD.
Qualification Requirements Must have a High School Diploma and/or Surveying Degree with 5‑8 years’ experience.
Education and/or Experience High School Diploma and/or Surveying Degree with 5‑8 years’ minimum experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid driver’s license.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent oral and technical written communication skills.
Ability to direct instrument persons and other field surveyors.
Strong sense of urgency and self‑initiative to meet client deadlines.
Available to work overtime as needed to complete projects.
Available to work in the field in all weather conditions.
Desire to learn and improve field skills and survey knowledge.
Ability to make independent decisions within the general framework of projects.
Must be fluent in the English language.

Perform moderately strenuous tasks, such as lifting and carrying survey equipment/instruments weighing up to 75 pounds over rough terrain.
Climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Clear vegetation, dig holes, and pound stakes with hand tools.
Stand; walk; use hands to finger, reach with hands and arms, or feel and talk or hear.
