Director of Purchasing & Material Control
The Director of Purchasing and Material Control is a senior-level position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day aspects of the Company’s sourcing, purchasing and material management. This role ensures a cost-effective and reliable supply chain that meets organizational goals, minimizes expenses, and supports timely work flow. Responsibilities
Develop and implement overarching purchasing and materials management strategies, policies, and procedures that align with the company's financial and operational goals. Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, support contract negotiations to secure optimal pricing and terms, and continuously evaluate supplier performance based on cost, quality, and delivery. Oversee purchasing budgets and cost reduction initiatives. Conduct market and spend analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and report on purchasing activity and performance to executive leadership. Implement and manage local inventory control systems to ensure optimal stock levels, prevent shortages, and minimize carrying costs. This includes overseeing location-specific logistics. Recruit, train, and manage a team of purchasing and material control personnel. Set performance targets and foster a high-performance culture. Work closely with other departments, such as operations, sales, finance, safety, engineering, and quality assurance, to understand their material needs and ensure alignment across the organization. Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards. Develop risk mitigation plans to address potential supply chain disruptions. Evaluate and improve existing procurement processes using data analytics, technology, and automation to drive efficiency.
