Research Financial Administrator Intermediate

It is located in Michigan Medicine and focuses on financial forecasting, management of sponsored and other funds, and coordination with faculty, sponsors, and administrative staff. Responsibilities
Provide high level financial forecasting and management support to assigned faculty and funds, predominantly sponsored basic science research and training grants, plus gift and discretionary funds. Proactively advise faculty on proper fund management through monthly reconciliation and analysis; alert faculty to budget deviations and suggest corrective actions to keep projects on budget. Ensure proper accounting of funds, budget funds consistent with sponsor/donor intent, and encumbrances are properly recorded. Manage sub-contract awards and sub-contracts to other institutions; advise administrative and lab staff on allowability and allocability for procurement, including initiation of P-Card and expense reports. Review receivables and invoicing for sponsored activity as appropriate; act as liaison with Sponsored Programs and ORSP staff to ensure projects are set up and closed out per policies; ensure backup documentation is compiled and filed. Manage post-award change requests, budget allocations to sub-projects, UG Monitoring reports, and related sponsored program activities. Develop budgets, forecasts, and reports for PIs’ funding portfolios; monitor burn rates and explain variances; keep the department administrator apprised. Coordinate with departmental staff to streamline financial workflow and ensure alignment with sponsor and institutional policies; work with PIs to support budgeting and reporting needs. Perform other departmental duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; minimum of 3 years of related experience including interpreting sponsor guidelines, completing sponsor/university forms, budgets and budget justifications, and working knowledge of eRPM. Strong accounting background in sponsored programs and federal requirements; understanding of ORSP, OMOR, Sponsored Programs, and Medical School operations. Experience managing sponsored, general, auxiliary, and gift funds. Demonstrated attention to detail, analytical and customer service skills. Ability to work with a wide variety of customers; excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks; strong computer skills including Microsoft Office; ability to work effectively both in a team and independently. Ability to work under deadline pressure and manage multitasking and prioritization of numerous proposals with post-award duties. Effective personal and written communications and the ability to cultivate trust with faculty, staff, administrators, and sponsors.
