Job Summary The Primary Therapist is responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and facilitating a variety of therapeutic modalities, including individual, family, and group therapies. This role requires effective communication with families and collaboration with the treatment team to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical support within Newport Healthcare’s framework. The Primary Therapist fosters a therapeutic environment that promotes healing and growth for clients and their families.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary clinical contact for families, maintaining proactive and clear communication regarding the client’s progress and treatment, ensuring families are informed and engaged throughout the process.
Conduct individual, family, and group therapy sessions utilizing Newport Healthcare’s clinical model and principles of Attachment-Based Family Therapy to promote effective healing and relationship-building.
Conduct group therapy sessions regularly, creating a supportive and engaging environment for participants.
Lead Family Orientations, Welcome Presentations, and Family Support Groups to engage and educate families about the treatment process, fostering a supportive community.
Complete risk assessments and initial safety plans upon client admission to ensure immediate and appropriate interventions.
Conduct thorough biopsychosocial assessments and develop comprehensive treatment plans within established timelines, tailored to each client's unique needs.
Collaborate with the treatment team to coordinate treatment goals and services, including regular 30-day treatment plan reviews and updates to track client progress.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, group notes, contact notes, and discharge summaries, adhering to established standards and regulatory requirements.
Conduct risk or crisis assessments and provide appropriate interventions and management as necessary to ensure client safety and well-being, utilizing de-escalation techniques and support resources.
Attend and actively participate in weekly treatment team meetings, staff meetings, and clinical supervision, contributing to enhanced team dynamics and treatment efficacy through open communication and collaboration.
Accurately enter and save data using Microsoft Word, Outlook (email and calendaring), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and online learning platforms, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
Represent Newport Healthcare at meetings, trainings, and conferences as needed, promoting the organization’s mission and values while engaging in continuous professional growth and development.
Maintain a strong focus on substance abuse counseling, utilizing evidence-based practices to support clients in their recovery journey.
Carry a small caseload of clients, providing personalized care and attention to each individual's needs.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field or enrollment in Doctorate program from an accredited or state-approved graduate school required.
Licensed or eligible to transfer license in Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, Social Work, or Clinical Psychology in the state where services are provided.
Experience with individual, family, and/or group therapy with young adults/adolescents.
Experience with mental health, substance abuse, eating disorders, or trauma-informed treatment preferred.
Credentialed (CSAC or CACAD) as a mental health or substance abuse counselor preferred; willingness to pursue certification in the service state is required.
