Black & Veatch Overview The Senior Marine Structural Engineer will contribute to marine, coastal and heavy civil projects, providing design, analysis and studies for domestic and international projects. The role includes technical leadership within a regional practice and advising on national practice strategy on Coast and Flood Infrastructure projects. Responsibilities Provide marine structural engineering related design, analysis, and studies for domestic and international marine, coastal and heavy civil projects. Design and inspect marine structures including docks, marinas, wharves, piers, steel, timber and concrete pile structures, floating structures, breakwaters, seawalls, bulkheads, and waterfront facilities. Experience with design hydraulic structures is a plus. Function as a technical leader in a regional practice lead capacity and advise on national practice strategy for Coast and Flood Infrastructure projects. Execute assigned projects and mentor younger professionals. Key responsibilities Provide guidance on department design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and B&V policies. Own or update engineering standards and guides and provide technical guidance to project teams. Ensure quality program compliance, establish related processes, and support continuous improvement, change management and risk management. Prepare complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects; research and recommend equipment/materials; manage data for engineering work. Prepare complex calculations, manage budgets/schedules/quality, apply advanced engineering solutions, and assign tasks to team members. Review work and coordinate multiple disciplines as needed. Establish project work plans. Coordinate with internal/external team members on complex projects; define project schedules for single or multiple disciplines. Identify client interests and drivers and incorporate them into project performance. Identify future client needs and support business development or pursuit activities. Act as a technical specialist in a broad or specialized field; support multiple projects on complex technical challenges; may be an industry expert or engineering consultant for large-scale projects. Oversee performance management, career planning, and professional development; mentor junior staff and identify successors. Qualifications Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline Prior experience as a Marine Structural Engineer Licensed PE or ability and interest to obtain PE and/or be in active pursuit of registration Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program Minimum of 11 years related work experience Certifications Professional engineering registration is preferred or in active pursuit Work Environment/Physical Demands Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion, job performance and work assignments. Typical office and construction environments, exposure to extreme weather, high noise, safety hazards, and atmospheric conditions in field environments. Physical requirements include sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
