A Day in the Life We are seeking a Software Test Engineer II to support our Returned Product Analysis (RPA) lab, which is dedicated to the evaluation and investigation of explanted cardiac medical devices. This role will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and validating custom software tools that enable efficient, accurate, and compliant lab processes. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in Python, a solid understanding of software validation in a regulated environment, and a focus on innovation and process improvement.

This position is based in Rice Creek, MN.

We are seeking a Software Test Engineer II to provide critical engineering support for Medtronic’s CRM Returned Product Analysis Lab, which handles the return and analysis of explanted cardiac devices. This role focuses on improving and maintaining automated tools, systems, and processes that enable efficient, compliant, and high‑quality product analysis. Responsibilities also include managing reports and system queries to support metrics, workflow, data analysis, and issue investigation. In addition, the role encompasses test engineering duties related to lab maintenance and support of physical analysis equipment.

The ideal candidate will combine strong technical skills in software development and automation with an understanding of regulated laboratory operations. This includes developing and validating tools to support device analysis, ensuring compliance with industry quality record requirements, and collaborating closely with lab technicians to deliver practical, sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and enhance Python‑based tools and systems to support device analysis and data reporting

Support and maintain existing visual basic platforms used in lab operations

Participate in software validation, qualification, and documentation activities in accordance with regulatory requirements

Develop and execute test plans and scripts designed to detect problems in software applications and systems software

Ensure software applications meet technical and functional requirements

Perform workflow analysis, review automation framework, and recommend quality improvements

Maintain lab capability to interrogate and investigate a variety of released products models

Collaborate with lab staff to understand workflows, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement effective and efficient solutions

Contribute to general lab test engineering functions including equipment setup, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, purchasing, and qualification

Balance shifting priorities in a high‑volume operations environment while meeting regulatory deadlines and business needs

Partner with cross‑functional teams to ensure solutions meet device capabilities

Must‑Have Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field

2+ years software validation/qualification experience,

Or Master’s degree in the same fields with a minimum of 0 years relevant experience

Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications

Proficiency in Python for tool/system development

Experience working with visual basic

Strong documentation and data reporting skills

Experience with software validation/qualification in a regulated industry and/or any experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry

Familiarity with database administration (SQL)

Demonstrated ability to identify process inefficiencies and implement practical improvements

Hands‑on experience with test equipment setup, calibration, troubleshooting, and qualification

Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to work closely with technicians and other stakeholders

Adaptable in a dynamic environment and motivated by the challenge of supporting critical work that impacts patient safety and quality

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $80,800.00 - $121,200.00. This position is eligible for a short‑term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
