Respondology, LLC
Overview
Respondology is seeking a hands-on and forward-thinking Senior DevOps Engineer to own and evolve our AWS platform. You’ll lead our IaC migration, modernize CI/CD (standardizing on GitHub Actions), and uplift reliability, observability, and cost governance across EC2- and ECS-based services. You’ll build platform patterns, automation, and guardrails that turn hand-rolled scripts and JSON task definitions into clean, reusable IaC—and make staging a true place for end-to-end testing. Your work will directly accelerate how engineering, product, and leadership teams ship safely at scale. Respondology is an AI-powered social engagement platform that modernizes how social marketers moderate, listen to, and respond to comments at scale. Fast to deploy. Easy to use. Trusted by hundreds of leading brands to optimize their organic and paid social performance. This is a REMOTE role with required travel to Boulder, CO twice per year. We are open to candidates in the US or Canada. Responsibilities
Design and roll out an IaC migration (modules, environment layout for staging/prod, remote state, policy-as-code). Standardize CI/CD on GitHub Actions: build/test/release pipelines for Python (ECS) and Ruby (EC2), with rollbacks. Replace hand-rolled JSON/Makefiles with IaC for ECS services (clusters, task definitions, autoscaling), networking, and ALB. Uplift staging to support realistic, cross-service end-to-end flows and pre-prod checks. Operate core AWS services we use: RDS/Postgres (with read replica), ECS/Fargate, EC2, VPCs, ALB, SQS, OpenSearch, Redshift, ElastiCache. Strengthen observability and on-call (two rotations: Ruby/EC2 and Python/ECS) with SLOs, dashboards, and playbooks. Partner on SOC 2 Type 2 operations and evidence; maintain WAF/Config and Inspector in pipelines. Establish cost tagging standards and dashboards; run regular cost reviews and rightsizing. Qualifications
5+ years operating AWS production workloads (ECS/Fargate, EC2, VPC, IAM, ALB). IaC expert: modules, environments, state strategy, CI/CD integration, testing, and policy-as-code. Strong GitHub Actions CI/CD experience (migrate from CircleCI/Makefiles; build/release for Python on ECS and Ruby on EC2). Observability with Datadog/CloudWatch (dashboards, alerts, SLOs, on-call runbooks, postmortems); security-first: IAM least privilege, AWS Secrets Manager, AWS Inspector, WAF/Config guardrails. FinOps aware: cost tagging standards, budgets/anomaly alerts, and rightsizing practices. Clear communicator who mentors teams and drives pragmatic, incremental platform improvements. Salary and Benefits: Base Salary in the range of $130k–$160k DOE plus bonus and equity. We offer 100% remote employment with optional Boulder, CO office, flexible work arrangements, generous holidays, 100% paid family leave, life and supplemental insurance options, and 401(k) matching (traditional and Roth) from day one.
