Hennepin Healthcare (HCMC) has a current opening for a Staff Nurse

in Jail Health Services.

This position is a 0.7 FTE (7 shifts/pay period), 8-hour shifts, evening shift and every other weekend.

Jail Health Services is under contract with Hennepin County Medical Center and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office to provide medical services to the jail inmate population. The Hennepin County Jail is the largest and busiest pre‑trial adult detention center in Minnesota with approximately 35,000 individuals booked into the jail each year.

Initial medical screenings are done at the time an inmate is booked into the jail to triage for urgent medical needs. Before their 14th day of incarceration, all inmates receive a mandatory health assessment and Tuberculosis screening. The jail offers medical, mental health and dental services on a 24‑hour basis and the clinic also operates a 4 bed infirmary unit for hospital diversion.

RESPONSIBILITIES Within the context of the Hennepin Healthcare System Relationship‑Based Care practice model, and under general supervision, the registered nurse provides and coordinates nursing care by:

Protecting, promoting wellness and optimizing health

Triaging patients by assessing severity of symptoms and referral to appropriate setting or level of care

Alleviating suffering through the treatment of the human response

Partnering with the patient, their family and significant others

Documenting interventions and an individualized plan of care

Educating patient on their disease process

Assuring continuity of care

Educating patient and family in preventative care which promotes health and well being

Minimum Qualifications

1 year of RN experience or a preceptorship in Jail Health Services

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing

Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Minnesota

Preferred Qualifications

1 year experience in TCU, Med Surg, Corrections, Mental health, or Addiction medicine experience

BSN Preferred. Bachelor of Nursing degree is strongly encouraged. Advancement in academic education will be discussed as part of individual professional development during the annual performance review.
