OUR PEOPLE
We are looking for an Electrical Avionics Engineer to design, build, test, and fly avionics units for Momentus vehicles. The role involves high‑performance, low‑cost, low‑mass flight computers, cameras, and power systems. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast‑paced environment and enjoys solving challenging problems.
Key Responsibilities
Develop avionics units in one or more of the following areas:
Flight computer, data handling, and payload interface systems
Power converters and power distribution systems
Attitude determination sensors and cameras
Radio communication systems
High‑power microwave amplifiers
Perform PCB schematic capture and layout
Conduct detailed technical review of electronics designs and PCB layouts
Assist in developing test plans for flight qualification of avionics (TVAC, vibration, thermal, radiation, EMC/EMI, etc.)
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium Designer
Experience designing electronics for space environments (LEO, GEO, deep space) including radiation, thermal, and vibration
Experience defining spacecraft avionics architectures and developing associated budgets
Experience performing radiation test campaigns
Familiarity with embedded software development
Deep technical expertise in at least one of the following areas:
High‑speed digital design: FPGAs, microprocessors, high‑speed memory, high‑speed communication buses
Power electronics: power converters, load switches, etc.
RF electronics: mixers, local oscillators, power amplifiers
Mixed‑signal electronics: ADCs and DACs, image sensors, analog front‑ends
Experience with circuit simulation software such as LTSpice
Previous experience with DoD and other U.S. Government development and deployment programs
Ability to hold and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance
Education & Experience
BS degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
5–8 years of relevant experience.
Location & Eligibility This is a full‑time position in San Jose, California. The role requires access to export‑controlled data and a U.S. citizenship, permanent resident status, or other protected status under U.S. export regulations.
Compensation & Benefits Annual Base Salary Range: $140,000 – $175,000 per year. Base pay is one part of our total compensation package (base + bonus + equity). Other benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, short‑ and long‑term disability and life insurance, flexible PTO, 11 paid holidays, sick time, and paid parental leave.
