Medical Technologist
Responsibilities
Supervision
Assists supervisor with scheduling, quality control, and maintenance programs, workflow organization.
Serves on interview teams.
Distribution and Transportation
Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment, and specimens.
Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens.
Specimen Handling & Processing
Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens.
Communicates effectively with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers.
Uses AIDET as applicable, attends CARES training, and ensures proper service recovery for patients and/or caregivers; answers telephone politely and efficiently.
Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees.
Maintains accurate and timely reporting of department testing and performance improvement initiatives; documents instrument monthly maintenance and quality control.
Assists with training students and new employees; participates in continuing education and stays abreast of regulatory changes.
Adheres to NMHS/NMMC policies, local/state/federal regulations, and CAP & CLSI standards.
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or related field.
ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Minimum of 2 years laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist.
Valid Mississippi Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
Proficient skills with LIS.
Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills.
Knowledge of handling biohazardous specimens.
