Responsible for unit dose distribution including familiarity with medications, dosage forms and storage requirements. Communicates with pharmacists and nursing staff to ensure timely preparation and delivery of medications. Prepares and repackages medications into unit of use products. Delivers medications, including controlled substances, to nursing areas and ancillary departments in accordance with established policies and procedures, and DEA and DPH regulations. Restocks automated dispensing machines (ADSs) and floor stock medications. Follows relevant Epic workflows including loading medications, dispensing doses, dispense tracking, and fulfilling cart fill items. Delivers all medication in compliance with all DEA, DPH & State Board of Pharmacy regulations. Prepares and delivers IV medications in accordance with Federal USP 797 & USP 800 standards. Maintains records pertaining to IV admixtures, maintains cleanliness in sterile areas, and completes relevant Quality Assurance processes. Compounds non-sterile products and repackages bulk supplies of medications in unit of use packaging in accordance with all Federal USP 795 & USP 800 standards. Checks for expired medications within the pharmacy & automated dispensing cabinets. Ensures that all expired/damaged medications are disposed of in accordance with RCRA, OSHA & NIOSH regulations. Participates in the continued training of and provides mentorship to students and pharmacy technicians. Required Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required. Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician license/registration and Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or ExCPT certification (Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Technician). Employee must remain in good standing with the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Pharmacy including maintenance of registration and fees. 0-2 years related work experience required. Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access). Preferred Qualifications
3-6 months as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital or retail setting. Ability to perform simple and complex pharmaceutical calculations. Familiarity with medications: generic and trade names, methods of administration, and conversion between metric and apothecary systems.
