Supplier Quality Engineer

Ashland City , Barge Plant .

The

Supplier Quality Engineer , reporting to the Quality Director, will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality of products and materials sourced from suppliers. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring supplier compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supplier management, quality control, and process optimization.

Arcosa Marine Products, a leading manufacturer of inland barges, manufactures dry cargo barges, including flat-deck and hopper barges, that are used to transport a variety of products including grain, coal, and aggregates. Arcosa Marine Products also manufactures tank barges that carry petroleum, fertilizer, ethanol, chemicals, and other liquid cargoes. It is the largest U.S. manufacturer of fiberglass hopper barge covers used primarily on grain barges. Additionally, Arcosa Marine Products provides a full line of deck hardware to the marine industry, including hatches, castings, and winches for towboats and dock facilities.

What You’ll Do Supplier Quality Management

Establish and manage supplier quality performance metrics and develop supplier scorecards.

Conduct supplier audits, assessments, and evaluations to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Identify and resolve quality issues related to suppliers and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to drive improvements in quality and performance.

Continuous Improvement

Lead quality improvement projects aimed at reducing defects, improving supplier performance, and optimizing supply chain processes.

Work closely with suppliers to implement corrective actions and process improvements.

Promote and support the use of Six Sigma, Lean, and other quality improvement methodologies.

Collaboration

Partner with cross-functional teams, including Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product Development, to address and resolve quality concerns.

Provide technical guidance to suppliers and internal teams to address quality issues and ensure timely resolution.

Compliance & Documentation

Ensure that all suppliers comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal company policies.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of supplier audits, quality reports, and corrective actions.

Review and approve supplier documentation related to quality, such as inspection plans, certificates of conformance, and reports.

Training & Development

Train suppliers on quality standards, inspection techniques, and company-specific requirements.

Provide internal training to the organization on best practices for supplier quality management and quality control.

What You Will Need

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Supply Chain, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., Six Sigma, CQE) is a plus.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in supplier quality management or quality assurance, preferably in a manufacturing or engineering environment.

Strong experience with supplier audits, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions.

Knowledge of quality systems, standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949), and regulatory requirements (CFR, GMP, etc.).

Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external suppliers.

Proficiency with quality management software and tools (e.g., SAP, Minitab, APQP, FMEA).

Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, assembly) and materials (steel).

Six Sigma Green/Black Belt

Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)

ASQ Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP)
