Overview
WSP is currently seeking an Experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our Atlanta, Augusta, or Savannah, Georgia offices. Provides geotechnical engineering assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include research, design, analysis, concept development, planning, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, canals, levees, bridges, water supply systems, underground storage, and sewage treatment. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding material, installations, and construction specifications. Ensures responsibilities are delivered and adhere to quality standards for design, safety, and functionality. Collect, compile, and analyze data from sites and sources such as soil / water / sludge / rock samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface information, maps, and other geotechnical data for project development, design, and construction. Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements, statistical analysis of rock and soil environmental data, and reporting. Perform geotechnical engineering work, including subsurface investigations, settlement analysis, slope stability, earth pressures, geological hazards, and related assessments to ensure conformance with permits and standards. Participate in incorporating modeling techniques and design requirements to ensure safety and functionality of end?users and transportation systems. Work individually or in cross?functional teams to execute project work, laying out installations, foundations, slopes, retaining structures, embankments, and other soil / rock?supported systems, while ensuring compliance with specifications and permits. Verify site characteristics and provide technical guidance on environmental, soil, stress?bearing factors, erosion, and slope?related safety for proposed projects. Prepare data visualizations, tables, charts, calculations, and illustrations for interpretation or presentation of findings. Assist with development and scoping of small?to?medium?sized projects and contribute to technical reports and presentations to address design and construction issues. Conduct geotechnical studies and surveys to gather information for design and future planning. Assist in data analysis and interpretation from field investigations and help develop risk mitigation action plans. Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Collaborate with engineers, planners, and authorities on projects funded by Federal, State, regional, and local programs. Adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies, and exercise responsible and ethical decision?making regarding company funds and resources. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or closely related discipline. 3 to 5 years of relevant post?education experience in engineering with prior geotechnical design experience. Engineer in Training Certification. Technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering, including design of deep and shallow foundations, slope stability, seismic engineering, retaining wall design, earth retention, rock mechanics, settlement of compressible soils, ground improvement techniques, and dewatering applicable to permits and project work. Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design. Understanding of rock and soil mechanics for subsurface investigations and foundation design. Ability to coordinate with regulators and understand regulatory requirements. Knowledge of remediation, permitting, and construction laws and compliance practices. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non?technical audiences. Self?leadership, detail orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to learn new techniques and work independently while following instructions and company policies. Moderate proficiency with technical writing, software, and mathematical tools. Experience with discipline?specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC?RAS, HEC?HMS). Strong problem?solving skills to analyze data and derive effective solutions. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health and safety policies. Ability to work on project?specific schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Engineering. Essential Professional Licensure / Certification. 40?Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120). Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
