Job Summary
The Operations Supervisor supervises dock operations and off‑hours customer service.
Critical Job Functions
Supervises and coordinates dock operations and personnel including load planning, local and linehaul deliveries, equipment and contractor utilization, OS&D procedures, sales, rating, billing, customer service, employee payroll and office operations.
Maintains a clean, safe work environment.
Assists in all service center and employee safety issues and compliance with governmental regulations.
Assists local and linehaul contractors with coordinating the following activities: loading and unloading, equipment lease agreements, DOT qualifications and requirements, manifest approval and settlements, deliveries, and operation procedures.
Ensures load quality, timely computer data entry and proper freight routing.
Reviews daily service center operating cost to manage profitability and budgeted cost attainment.
Provides supervision to staff through motivation, direction and performance feedback.
Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
Provides leadership through example and sharing of knowledge.
Traces and updates freight information and paperwork.
Assists with various positions and forklift operations in the absence of employees.
Requires general guidance on overall objectives; operates independently within division or department policy guidelines.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university; or one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employers.
Communicates internally and externally with service centers, linehaul contractors, law enforcement and customers.
Proficient computer skills in email, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.
Preferred knowledge of AS/400.
Experience supervising the selection, training, development and appraisal of personnel.
Average typing, filing and ten‑key skills.
Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Hazardous Materials Handling Certified.
Forklift certified.
Ability to solve practical problems and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to prioritize and delegate assignments.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Physical Demands
Heavy physical activity performing strenuous daily tasks of a productive/technical nature.
Required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, reach/handle items, work with fingers; visual and hearing acuity; occasional odors; lifting objects up to 100 lb.
Work Environment
Noise level is loud due to printers and forklifts operating outside the door.
Work occurs outdoors and indoors with adequate ventilation.
Occasional wet or humid conditions, near fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibrations and outdoor weather conditions.

Compensation The compensation for this role is $70,000 per year.
