There are over 90 clinical faculty, 20 Ph.D. faculty, 8 Postdoctoral Scholars, 42 residents, 16 Clinical fellows, 43 Certified Nurse Anesthetists, PAs, NPs and five bargaining units represented. The Department provides Clinical Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Services at UCSD Hillcrest and La Jolla medical campuses, as well as at Rady Children\'s Hospital and the VAMC. The department operates outpatient chronic pain services at the La Jolla and Hillcrest medical center campuses. Position

This is a Nurse Practitioner (NP) position for the Anesthesiology Department\'s Pain Division. The UC San Diego Center for Pain Medicine includes 15 physicians, 5 fellows, and two physician assistants with clinic offices in La Jolla, Hillcrest, and Encinitas and procedural clinics in La Jolla and Hillcrest. Under the supervision of the pain medicine physicians, the advanced care practitioner provides clinical care for patients at UCSD Center for Pain Medicine Outpatient and Inpatient Services. Duties include outpatient new patient and return clinic visits and inpatient consultations and follow-up visits. Responsibilities

Serve as a first-line resource to triage and respond to patient or outside provider calls and messages. Act as liaison with physicians to promote consistent medical management of patients across the health care continuum by collaborating with the multidisciplinary care team; confer with physicians for the appropriateness of treatment plans. Under supervision of attending physicians, perform physical examinations, evaluate care plans, adjust plans, and order a variety of pain therapies including procedures, physical and complementary therapies, psychological therapy and medications. Perform office-based pain procedures, provide coverage of the inpatient pain consult service, and assist physicians with operating room procedures. Coordinate outpatient care and treatments, develop and document plans of care, and educate patients/families and staff; present in-services to staff or community groups as needed. Serve as a key resource for nursing staff, fellows and medical students; participate in ongoing clinical trials related to patient recruitment or clinical care. Minimum Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program. California RN license, California NP license, and Furnishing License Certification. National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area. BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain UCSD BART within six months of hire date. Minimum one (1) year of work experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner, with experience in pain management. Understanding and experience evaluating and treating acute and chronic pain including cancer pain, post-operative pain and other chronic pain conditions. Ability to engage patients in discussions of risks vs. benefits of therapies and understand medical and psychosocial needs of patients with acute and chronic pain. Interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in a high-volume, dynamic clinic and hospital setting. Skill in patient interviewing, obtaining concise medical history, and gathering pertinent data. Skill in performing a focused musculoskeletal and neurologic examination. Proficiency in accurate and concise documentation of patient history, exam, and treatment response. Knowledge of common diagnostic tests and ability to identify deviations (e.g., lab tests, X-rays, MRIs, EMG/NCSs). Strong computer skills for entry and retrieval of patient data (Epic preferred). Experience providing patient education and counseling and developing long and short-range treatment plans. Knowledge of analgesic medications and risk assessment related to analgesic prescribing and opioid safety. Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of pain management experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner. Knowledge of indications, risks, and benefits of interventional therapies for chronic pain. Experience with clinical trials and identifying potential clinical trial patients. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices and other federal guidelines for protection of human subjects. Special Conditions

Employment is subject to criminal background check, pre-employment physical, and drug testing. Must obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment; clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years. Willingness to work a variable schedule and to travel occasionally for meetings. Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council. Pay and Compliance

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $167,687 - $234,649 (will be prorated if appointment percentage

Hourly Equivalent: $80.31 - $112.38. Compensation factors include experience, skills, knowledge, education, licensure and certifications, and other business needs. The posted annual full pay range may be broader than the amount UCSD expects to pay based on internal equity, budget, and applicable agreements. Additional policies regarding vaccination, life-support certifications (when applicable), and drug screening requirements may apply. Application Note
