Senior Cybersecurity Architect - DoD Secret Clearance Position located at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL. Relocation: None. Remote/Telework: No. Clearance Type: DoD Secret. Shift: Day. Travel: Up to 10%.

Overview The Senior Cybersecurity Architect supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. This leadership role is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing robust cybersecurity architectures that protect the organization’s assets, data, and systems. The role provides technical expertise and guidance to embed security principles across the IT infrastructure and collaborates with cross-functional teams to align cybersecurity strategy and architecture with business objectives, threat landscape, and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

Cybersecurity Architecture Design and Development: Develop and maintain the organization’s cybersecurity architecture framework, standards, and blueprints.

Design and implement security architectures for cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments.

Evaluate and recommend security technologies, platforms, and tools to enhance the organization’s cybersecurity posture.

Review and approve architectural diagrams, documentation, and models with a focus on security controls and data flow.

Lead proof-of-concepts and prototypes to validate security architectural designs.

Architect and design secure solutions for data protection, network security, endpoint security, IAM, and application security.

Threat Modeling and Risk Assessment: Participate in threat modeling exercises, perform risk assessments, and develop mitigation strategies.

Technical Leadership and Guidance: Provide technical leadership and mentoring to security professionals; act as a subject matter expert on cybersecurity architecture best practices and emerging technologies; integrate security into the SDLC; drive adoption of new technologies and architectural patterns.

Security Standards and Compliance: Ensure architecture complies with regulatory requirements (e.g., NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001, STIGs); collaborate with compliance teams on audits and assessments.

Incident Response Support: Participate in incident response activities, provide technical guidance, and review incident analyses for architectural or technical corrective actions.

Collaboration and Communication: Work with IT operations, development, and business units to align security goals; communicate designs effectively to technical and non-technical audiences; participate in architecture review boards and governance processes.

Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging security technologies and industry trends; identify opportunities to improve cybersecurity architecture.

Minimum Qualifications

8+ years of general (full-time) work experience (may be reduced with advanced education).

6+ years of direct experience in cybersecurity architecture.

2+ years in a management or leadership role.

Proven experience designing and implementing complex security architectures.

Deep understanding of security principles, technologies, and best practices.

Experience with a variety of security tools and technologies (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS, Elastic Security SIEM, ACAS, endpoint security).

Experience with cloud security architecture and deployment models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

Experience implementing Zero Trust principles across an IT services environment.

Strong understanding of cybersecurity architecture principles and best practices.

Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF, ISO 27001).

Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Desired Qualifications

1+ industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, or AWS Certified Security – Specialty.

Experience with threat modeling methodologies (e.g., STRIDE, DREAD).

Experience with penetration testing and vulnerability assessment.

Experience with DevSecOps principles and practices.

Experience with security automation and orchestration.

Salary $145,000 – $180,000 annually. Final compensation is based on experience, education, location, and applicable certifications.
