Job Responsibilities

Respond to emergency scenes including fire, medical, bomb threats, flooding, sprinkler system discharge, elevator emergencies, hazardous material incidents, inclement weather, and other types of incidents.

Arrive on scene, perform a scene size‑up, and relay information to central dispatch and the on‑duty supervisor.

Perform rescue procedures such as vehicle extrication, machinery extrication, and high‑ and low‑angle rescue.

Carry out fire suppression using apparatus, hydrants, hose stations, and portable/wheeled extinguishers.

Respond to hazardous material emergencies and provide spill containment for both small and large releases.

Respond to medical emergencies, initiate patient assessment/stabilization, and transport patients to an onsite medical clinic.

Relay patient care information to medical personnel, including patient history, vitals, and treatments.

Administer treatment of injuries and illnesses per established medical protocols at the scene or in a specialized response vehicle.

Perform triage during mass casualty incidents.

Provide standard security duties such as unlocking doors, escorting visitors and staff, patrolling buildings and parking lots, and reporting irregularities to dispatch.

Prepare logs and reports as required.

Complete other job‑related duties as assigned.

Requirements

N.F.P.A. Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications required.

Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Level certifications.

National Registry or State of Indiana EMT or EMR certification.

Out‑of‑state certifications must transfer to Indiana and be completed within 90 days of hire.

Maintain all applicable state, county, and local EMT or EMR certification requirements.

Ability to meet and continue to meet physical and mental requirements, including seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly; reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; frequent sitting, standing, walking; climbing stairs and uneven terrain; lifting up to 10 lbs and occasionally up to 25 lbs.
