Georgia-Pacific is in search of a Strategic Air Environmental Engineer to join our environmental team to strengthen the air compliance & stewardship capability at our Consumer Products operation located in Rincon, GA. This full‑time, salaried role will be based at the Savannah River Mill in Rincon, GA.
The Environmental Engineer will support the air program in a way that is consistent with our Environmental Excellence Vision. To be successful, the Environmental Engineer will need to have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate and partner with others. Our candidate will be self‑motivated with strong analytical skills, exhibit sound decision‑making and have proficient organizational skills to efficiently balance multiple priorities.
More specifically for this role, our candidate will be a highly detail‑oriented environmental professional who will demonstrate a strong track record in maintaining accurate, compliant documentation to support regulatory reporting, operational audits, and environmental performance tracking, and have demonstrated the ability to manage complex data systems and ensure timely submission of reports and deliverables. In addition, the candidate should be skilled in coordinating people and information across internal operating departments to meet tight regulatory deadlines without compromising data integrity or quality standards.
Our Team This position will report to the Pro Region Air Leader and will work closely with the mill environmental team, mill operations and maintenance and other Pro Region environmental members at our Muskogee, OK and Green Bay, WI, facilities to help us deliver superior results.
What You Will Do
Leverage technology enablers and best practices to systematically drive the air emissions and other environmental programs to be more resilient, consistent, verifiable, efficient and effective.
Build solid working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including regulatory agencies). Effectively partner with operations teams to meet their environmental obligations.
Develop knowledge of mill processes and their impact on environmental performance.
Maintain and refine compliance programs to meet requirements with various air regulations.
Assist with meeting air regulatory compliance obligations. (For example - routine data/information management and analysis, report generation and submissions).
Utilize, create and implement mobile inspections to meet air compliance obligations.
Identify leading indicators that affect mill environmental performance and champion opportunities for improvement.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or a related field
Five (5+) or more years of environmental regulatory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment with an air compliance focus
Troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
What Will Put You Ahead
Experience in environmental programs in a large manufacturing environment
Pulp and paper process and regulatory knowledge
Experience analyzing process or environmental data trends
Experience with IOT devices, Continuous Monitoring Systems, mobile inspection platforms, PI Vision, and Data Acquisition Systems
Experience in planning and executing sampling events (e.g. stack emissions testing)
Ability to conduct critical reviews of technical reports and evaluate data
Experience with regulatory aspects of pollution control equipment
Experience evaluating new and proposed projects for environmental permitting implications
Experience preparing permit applications
Ability to critically read and interpret existing regulations as well as proposed rules
Experience in developing and maintaining constructive relationships with environmental regulatory agencies
