Position Summary The Neurosciences Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) supports over 70 active industry, federal, and investigator‑initiated studies covering epilepsy, memory disorders, neurocritical care, neuromuscular disorders, stroke, and more. The NCTU model brings highly trained coordinators to collaborate with investigators and sponsors, ensuring efficient and high‑standard clinical trials. The Clinical Research Manager/Budgeting Officer leads the NCTU’s administrative and financial oversight, assisting leadership with fiscal management, policy development, and training of staff and faculty.
Responsibilities
Plan and design research projects.
Manage project budgets and financial oversight.
Collect and analyze data and information.
Administer project oversight.
Develop and evaluate programs and policies, including financial SOPs.
Prepare reports.
Manage research study finances for studies involving human subjects.
Represent NCTU leadership at departmental and university levels on fiscal matters.
Provide training to staff and faculty.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Relevant post‑baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent). Candidates with comparable independent research productivity may receive a relevant bachelor’s degree and three or more years of related experience in substitution. A terminal degree and licensure may be required.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in research coordination or management and experience in budget negotiation.
Demonstrated experience in research activities and understanding of contract and budget negotiation.
Strong knowledge of research regulatory compliance (FDA, ICH, GCP) and the ability to understand a clinical protocol and research contract.
Experience in creating administrative tools, developing and implementing new processes, and drafting standard operating procedures.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to work independently, multitask in a fast‑paced environment, and prioritize high‑volume workload with minimal supervision.
Critical thinking and strategic problem‑solving skills that impact study timelines.
Strong planning abilities to meet established deadlines.
Adaptability, independence, and professionalism in facing challenges.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in research coordination or management and at least 2 years of budget negotiation.
Knowledge and appreciation of university structure, practices, policies, and procedures.
UNC experience preferred.
