Job Title: Plant EngineerJob Description
We are seeking a skilled and driven Plant Engineer to support the efficient operation and continuous improvement of our Food & Beverage manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for maintaining and optimizing plant equipment and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and leading engineering initiatives that enhance productivity, reliability, and sustainability.
Responsibilities
Oversee on-site construction activities including contractor coordination, site safety, and quality control.
Review and approve construction drawings, RFIs, and change orders.
Conduct site inspections and ensure adherence to project specifications and timelines.
Manage commissioning and startup of new systems and equipment.
Plan and execute capital improvement projects, including equipment upgrades and facility modifications.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scope, design, and implement engineering solutions.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet safety and quality standards.
Identify and implement opportunities for operational efficiency and cost reduction across production, packaging, utilities, and facility systems.
Conduct feasibility studies and ROI analyses to support project justification.
Lead projects from initial concept through design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and final handover.
Develop detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource requirements.
Ensure all engineering activities comply with food safety regulations, GMPs, OSHA, and environmental standards.
Support audits and inspections by regulatory agencies and customers.
Analyze production processes to identify opportunities for efficiency, yield improvement, and waste reduction.
Implement automation and control systems to improve operational performance.
Manage relationships with equipment suppliers, service providers, and contractors.
Review technical specifications, negotiate contracts, and oversee installation and commissioning.
Monitor vendor performance and ensure compliance with project specifications.
Maintain accurate records of equipment, maintenance activities, and engineering projects.
Prepare reports and presentations for leadership on plant performance and improvement initiatives.
Present project updates and post-project reviews to leadership.
Essential Skills
5+ years of engineering experience in a Food & Beverage manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of food safety standards (GMP, HACCP, FDA, USDA).
Experience with utilities systems (HVAC, steam, compressed air, refrigeration).
Proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related field.
Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
Experience with automation, PLCs, and control systems.
Familiarity with sustainability initiatives (energy efficiency, water conservation).
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive continuous improvement.
Work Environment The work environment is dynamic and collaborative, focusing on continuous improvement within a Food & Beverage manufacturing facility. The role involves working with advanced engineering software and utilities systems, including HVAC, steam, compressed air, and refrigeration. The position requires adherence to high standards of safety and quality, with a commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Columbus, Ohio.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr.
