Teacher, English Learner (EL)/Paired (25-26) This is a full‑time position, paired between Sedgefield Middle School (.5) and Metro School (.5) for the 25‑26 school year.

As an EL Teacher, you will work under moderate supervision to provide instructional work and leadership in an environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students. You will supervise, monitor, and evaluate students, develop lesson plans, and implement the Language Instruction Educational Plan (LIEP) for identified English Learners at each school. Your work will support Board of Education policies under the principal’s direction.

Salary / Status Certified Schedule / Full‑time, 10 months.

Reports To Principal.

Place of Work Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Schools premises, with the possibility of assignment to other locations as reasonably required.

Essential Functions

Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.

Adhere to the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards.

Assist school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure. Maintain order in the classroom fairly and justly.

Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students.

Plan and implement an EL program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of assigned students.

Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods.

Create a classroom environment that fosters student engagement and enables achievement of learning objectives.

Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and communicate clear objectives to students.

Establish learning objectives based on student needs and district curriculum framework.

Prepare for classes assigned, and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.

Diagnose learning challenges regularly, seeking assistance from central office staff as required. Maintain accurate IEP and 504 Plan records.

Provide an instructional program that meets the needs of all students, including those with disabilities and limited English proficiency.

Maintain school‑based LIEPs and service schedules for ELs.

Prepare materials and classrooms for activities.

Encourage students to explore learning opportunities and persevere through challenges.

Use appropriate techniques to promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking.

Prepare, administer, and grade assessments to monitor student progress.

Act as test administrator for the North Carolina Test Program.

Observe and assess students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health on a regular basis.

Meet with parents/guardians to discuss student progress and involve them in education.

Foster strong school‑home relations for EL students and facilitate communication between school and home.

Prepare and implement enrichment and remediation programs.

Attend Professional Learning Communities and staff meetings for data analysis and instructional planning.

Participate in professional development focused on acquiring and improving skills and knowledge.

Perform safety functions and drills to maintain a safe instructional environment.

Perform related work as assigned or required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum principles and standards.

Comprehensive knowledge of data utilization for instructional decisions.

Understanding of various learning styles, curriculum development, and program evaluation.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

Ability to learn and use specialized tools related to instructional practice.

Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules into daily operations.

Effective communication and relationship‑building skills.

Sound judgment and problem‑solving abilities.

Confidentiality regarding school system business.

Initiative and independent work skills.

Ability to work effectively in a deadline‑driven, rapidly changing team environment.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required.

Valid NC Teaching certification or eligibility for certification in the assigned area.

Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
