The practice has locations in Carmel, Newburgh, Mount Kisco, and Fishkill, New York, and another in Danbury, Connecticut. Danbury is also home to its Orthopaedic & Specialty Surgery Center, a leading multi-specialty surgical facility. Somers Orthopaedics is seeking an Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA). The PA will work under the supervision of an orthopedic surgeon to provide medical care and support to patients with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.
Responsibilities
Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough evaluations of patients, including medical histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic tests, to assist in diagnosing orthopedic conditions.
Treatment Planning: Collaborate with the orthopedic surgeon to develop treatment plans for patients, which may include recommending surgical interventions, non-surgical treatments, and rehabilitation strategies.
Assist in Surgery: Participate in orthopedic surgeries by assisting the surgeon, performing specific tasks, and ensuring patient safety and comfort during procedures.
Post-Operative Care: Provide post-operative care to patients, including wound care, monitoring recovery progress, and adjusting treatment plans, as necessary.
Prescribe Medications: Prescribe medications, including pain management drugs and antibiotics, as part of the treatment plan.
Perform Injections and Procedures: Administer joint injections, aspirations, and other minor procedures under the supervision of the orthopedic surgeon.
Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about their orthopedic conditions, treatment options, and post-operative care instructions.
Order and Interpret Tests: Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, MRI scans, and laboratory tests, to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting patient encounters, treatments, and progress.
Handle Administrative Tasks: May involve handling administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, responding to patient inquiries, and assisting with billing and insurance matters.
Education & Training
State licensure to practice in NYS and Connecticut.
2+ years' experience in Orthopedics preferred
