Position Summary

The Director of Nursing (DON) is a supervisory nursing position working in a correctional setting with 24-hour nursing services. The DON supervises and coordinates nursing personnel in one or more patient care units, verifies that patients' needs are met, and evaluates nursing care and unit performance. They participate in planning work for assigned units and coordinate activities with other units/departments. The DON plans and organizes staff training and works with the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), Health Services Administrator (HSA), and Regional Leadership to fulfill contractual requirements and achieve operational and clinical performance targets.

Minimum Requirements / Preferences

Graduate of an Accredited Nursing School required. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in nursing preferred Licensed to practice nursing in the State; board-certified or board-eligible in medicine; experience providing services to an adult population Specialty certification in correctional healthcare desired (CCHP or CCHP-RN) Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting; correctional healthcare experience preferred Clinical operations management experience preferred; prior direct management experience in a correctional health setting desired Knowledge of accreditation standards (NCCHC, ACA & state-specific) and experience with quality improvement programs and clinical auditing is preferred

Essential Functions

Utilizes a systematic approach to meet the health needs of each patient Provides quality oversight in collaboration with site, regional and corporate leadership; provides clinical supervision to nursing staff; organizes delivery of safe, effective, and efficient patient care Evaluates patient care delivery processes regularly; uses data to identify performance improvement opportunities and drives improvement Facilitates site performance improvement plans and contributes to site KPIs and Clinical Quality Initiatives Facilitates audits to assess site compliance with contractual requirements and accreditation standards; participates in site-level QAPI committees Performs annual accreditation readiness audits and tracks compliance; develops action plans based on findings and collaborates with site leadership to implement them Anticipates healthcare delivery and contractual issues; collaborates with site leadership and clients to meet service contract goals Performs screening interviews and recruitment activities; participates in selection of open site positions; identifies high-potential staff for development Performs at-hire and annual clinical competency assessments; provides mentoring and coaching; develops performance improvement plans as needed Coordinates orientation and onboarding; assesses staff learning needs and facilitates ongoing education Interprets regulations and standards; ensures compliance with licensure, accreditation, and regulatory requirements Develops monthly nursing and support staff schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels Conducts monthly staff meetings and supports development of annual operational and clinical performance plans Acts as liaison with other units, agencies and outside officials; maintains nursing records Participates in various clinical/process improvement committees and initiatives Supports company initiatives and best practices; assists in special projects and resource prioritization; participates in Regional DON communications
