Minnesota Council of Nonprofits
Community Engagement Specialist - Americorps VISTA Service Member
Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, 55400
Watercourse’s Community Outreach & Engagement Project is an Americorps VISTA member opportunity intended to increase access to care by creating a community-driven service model in the 3 underserved sectors of Minneapolis.
Watercourse Counseling is a nonprofit organization in Minneapolis, MN dedicated to centering, cultivating and valuing our communities. To advance our mission, we center community needs in the delivery of high quality, accessible mental health services; cultivate a strengths-based, equity-focused and community-responsive workforce; and value the strengths and wisdom of all individuals.
Join Watercourse’s Community Outreach & Engagement Project and be a part of increasing access to care by creating a community-driven service model in the 3 sectors of Minneapolis federally designated as mental health professional shortage areas. As a long‑term provider of community mental health services, we recognize there are gaps and unmet needs in areas of our city. We trust that the residents who call those areas home and who weave the social fabric of their communities are best equipped to devise solutions and strategies that will fit their needs. Therefore, we will utilize a grass‑roots organizing approach to engage the community by attending local events, facilitating focus groups, forging local agency partnerships and building authentic relationships from a stance of cultural humility and curiosity. As a VISTA, you will:
Complete community needs assessment related health services access and outcomes;
Design community outreach initiatives, initiate and engage community focus groups to identify mental health needs, preferences, and barriers;
Identify and leverage community partnerships to expand impact and strengthen efforts;
Assist in development of a community mental health program that includes a pathway to sustainability.
We are looking for candidates skilled in communications, networking, leadership, problem‑solving, self‑direction, community organizing, advocacy, research and analysis. Americorps VISTA benefits include end of service cash stipend or an education award, child care assistance, healthcare and living allowance. Additional benefits of this position include the opportunity to work with a diverse, dedicated team, relationship‑building, and personal fulfillment.
