The Bioproduct Research and Development (BR&D) organization delivers new medicines through the development and commercialization of insulins, peptides, oligonucleotides, monoclonal antibodies, novel therapeutic proteins, and gene therapy systems. BR&D is a multidisciplinary group with deep technical expertise that works collaboratively with our discovery and manufacturing colleagues. Located in Indianapolis, scientists have full access to Lilly’s deep pharmaceutical development expertise and engineering capabilities. In this role, you will be part of a diverse team of analytical chemists, pharmaceutical scientists, and engineers delivering product and process understanding across a broad range of platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Enable the design, development, and implementation of analytical methodologies for the characterization and analysis of cell and gene therapy products.

Contribute to the establishment of robust control strategies through generation of data, development of analytical methods, design, and execution of stability strategies.

Engage with scientists across development and manufacturing and collaborate with external partners to design and implement control strategies for projects at various stages of development.

Evaluate and implement new analytical technologies/methods to advance Lilly’s current analytical capabilities.

Spearhead new initiatives to improve existing scientific processes within the organization and across the company.

Identify and exploit new scientific concepts, leveraging strong problem‑solving skills to contribute across multiple projects.

Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate both technical and business implications of work.

Basic Qualifications

Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field; or MS with 5+ years of experience; or BS with 10+ years of experience.

Experience with analytical control strategy development from pre‑FHD to commercial launch.

Proficiency in drug development for cell and gene therapy products.

Experience with chromatographic separations (reverse‑phase, ion‑exchange, size‑exclusion), capillary electrophoresis, spectroscopic methods, and other techniques for analyzing cell and gene therapy products.

Knowledge of dPCR, ELISA, and cell‑based bioassays for cell and gene therapy product analysis.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Scientific and people leadership experience.

Proficiency in chromatography, mass spectrometry, optical spectroscopy, instrument engineering, or other analytical technologies.

Experience with data interpretation, including chemometrics, multivariate modeling, and other data manipulation tools.

Learning agility and the ability to apply technical knowledge to improve chemical system understanding or analytical techniques.

Aptitude to balance multiple activities, prioritize evolving project needs, and handle ambiguity.

Ability to work productively in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Travel: 0–15%

Potential exposure to chemicals, allergens, and loud noises.

Position Local: Indianapolis, IN; Lilly Technology Center‑North (LTC‑N)

Compensation: $126,000 – $244,200 per year.
