As a Senior Software Engineer with the Orders team, you will collaborate with cross‑functional product and engineering teams to design, deliver, and evolve the commerce systems for Disney’s global direct‑to‑consumer and streaming businesses, processing millions of orders daily. You will provide robust engineering solutions to reliably process subscriber sign‑ups, switches, and renewals. You will contribute to and be part of an engaging, dynamic, and inclusive engineering organization delivering solutions grounded in quality and motivated by a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Responsibilities

Design, develop and continuously improve the quality, reliability, scalability, and security of backend commerce systems using functional Scala, as well as Terraform, SQL, Python, YAML, etc.

Collaborate with cross‑functional product and engineering teams to design and implement new features and capabilities for our subscribers and stakeholders.

Write, test, and release high quality software systems using a mix of technologies including Scala, Typelevel Cats, FS2, Kubernetes, AWS Q, DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS, and Lambda.

Innovate, promote continuous improvement, and establish best practices.

Contribute to maintaining, updating, and expanding existing systems while maintaining uptime SLAs.

Contribute to the team on‑call rotation and the operational support of the team’s services.

Be a part of a distributed team and local office culture.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study and/or equivalent work experience.

Minimum of 5 years of relevant software engineering experience.

Proficient in at least one programming language, Scala is ideal.

Solid foundational programming skills with the ability to write clean, maintainable, and efficient code.

Proven experience designing, developing, and operating production‑quality software that is secure, scalable, resilient, and highly available at scale.

Experience with data storage engines, message queues, streaming data, and cloud technologies.

Commitment to continuous improvement of engineering practices, code quality, and product reliability.

Customer experience mindset with the ability to take action to improve the customer experience.

Clear verbal and written communication skills.

Willingness to learn, experiment, and take ownership.

Compensation: The hiring range for this position in New York, NY and Seattle, WA is $145,400 to $195,000 per year; in San Francisco, CA is $152,100 to $203,900 per year and in Los Angeles, CA is $138,900 to $186,200 per year. The base pay will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus and/or long‑term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
