Software Dev Engineer, Game-Based Learning
AWS Game-Based Learning Products is looking for a Software Development Engineer to join a fast-paced, startup-minded innovation team where fun is an integral part of your job. You will collaborate with a team of architects, artists, designers, engineers, and testers to build highly technical game-based learning solutions using hands‑on labs, virtual environments, and interactive simulations that develop practical skills with AWS services.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design, deliver, maintain, and operate multiple game-based learning products.
Drive system architecture and promote best practices to produce high-quality games, and coach less tenured engineers.
Partner with technical and business stakeholders to influence long‑term strategy, establish roadmaps, and make data‑driven decisions using industry and user telemetry data.
Write high-quality code that supports cloud services platforms foundational to our games.
A day in the life You will work closely with engineering and product stakeholders on a day‑to‑day basis, contributing to production of multiple games and features while collaborating with other learning product teams (e.g., AWS SkillBuilder, AWS Labs, AWS Jam, Exam Prep). You will solve, learn, and mentor team members on web‑scale challenges, distributed systems problems, and game development best practices. You will regularly review technical work with peers, stakeholders, and leadership.
About the team AWS Game-Based Learning team members are spread across the US, Canada, and Brazil. Our mission is to build learning products that use game thinking principles, combining learning strategies with game technologies and theories to develop appealing knowledge transfer experiences that target customer needs.
Basic Qualifications
3+ years of professional software development experience (non‑internship).
2+ years of design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C#, with object‑oriented design.
Ability to communicate in English (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
Experience in the Games Industry (supporting title development, release, or Live Ops).
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Depending on the position offered, equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
