About the Job A leading hospital laboratory in the Greater Boston area is seeking a Certified Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) to join its collaborative pathology team.

This role offers the opportunity to :

Contribute to high-quality patient care and medical education

Support surgical pathology, autopsy services, and frozen section operations

Work in a dynamic academic environment that values accuracy, scientific rigor, and compassionate service

Key Responsibilities

Accession, gross, and dissect human surgical specimens (small biopsies to large resections)

Assist in autopsies: external / internal examination, specimen sampling, and documentation

Support frozen section and histology operations (slide preparation, staining, tissue processing)

Maintain surgical pathology suite workflow, equipment, inventory, and compliance with CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission standards

Support Decedent Affairs Office operations, including documentation, family communication, and coordination with funeral directors and medical examiners

Teach and mentor students, residents, and junior staff in grossing techniques and safety practices

Participate in quality control, equipment calibration, and infection prevention initiatives

Qualifications

Graduate of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program

PA(ASCP) certification from the ASCP Board of Certification (required or attainable within six months)

1–2 years of experience in surgical or autopsy pathology preferred; new graduates encouraged to apply

Strong accuracy and precision in grossing and tissue processing

Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills

Knowledge of universal precautions, laboratory safety, and infection control practices

Licensing Requirements Must hold active PA(ASCP) certification from the ASCP Board of Certification.

Credentials are nationally recognized and meet all CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing personnel.

No Massachusetts state license required; candidates from any U.S. state are welcome to apply.
