Lead Data Scientist - Electric Load Forecasting

The Advanced Load Forecasting and Modeling team produces electric forecasts for Eversource. As a Lead Data Scientist of Electric Load Forecasting, you will develop long-term electric load forecasts at the system and feeder level to support the Company’s Electric Sector Modernization Plan (ESMP) Efforts. You will be responsible for managing a team of Analysts and Data Scientists. You will integrate distributed resource forecasts (including solar PV, energy efficiency, demand response, EVs, storage) for our US service territory. You will support internal stakeholders including Supply, Engineering, Regulatory, Strategy, Finance and others. You will ensure the forecasts incorporate new distributed energy resources, technologies, and policies.
Responsibilities
Lead and develop a team of data scientists and analysts
Develop long-term Electric Load Forecasts at the system and feeder level using econometric regression, time series, and machine learning models as appropriate in support of the ESMP
Take responsibility for forecasts and tools associated with the creation of the forecasts
Ensure the forecasts properly account for distributed energy resources and new technologies and policies (e.g. energy efficiency, demand response, electrification of heat, PV, EV, etc.)
Perform exploratory analysis of large complex data sets to derive insights and valuable actions
Discover business narrative told by the data and be able to present them to peer data scientists, business stakeholders, and managers at various levels
Participate in regulatory proceedings and provide expert testimony in support of the ESMP
Communicate forecasts and implications to senior leadership at the Company
Engage with external stakeholders, state, and city representatives
Work independently with minimal guidance and present projects to both technical and non-technical audiences
Update forecast processes and documentation to ensure they are efficient, reviewable, and reliable
Collaborate with internal stakeholders regarding forecast methodology and analysis
Stay current in all policies, regulatory requirements, market trends, and industry standards regarding customer energy use and technologies and programs impacting that use
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications Technical Knowledge/Skill
Knowledge of electric power systems and data science applications in the energy-utility space
Knowledge of the complex industry trends, and advanced solutions
Capable of working in a multi-cultural environment driving team performance
Disciplined, structured, and highly committed to results
External customer focus
Able to work in project organizations, engage and motivate people in different cultures
Proven ability to translate insights into business recommendations
Knowledge developing modern web applications
Education BS degree in Engineering, Data Science or related quantitative field. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience
8+ years of related experience. Advanced degrees may count towards years of experience
Experience in: machine learning, recommendation systems, pattern recognition, data mining or artificial intelligence. Academic, apprenticeship experience acceptable
Experience with setting up cloud architecture and CI-CD tools
Experience with scripting languages such as R, Python, and shell scripts
Working Conditions
Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required
Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary

$157,040.00-$174,490.00
