Physician (Gastroenterology) with Recruitment/Relocation Incentive-EDRP The South Texas Veterans Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Gastroenterologist located at the Audie L Murphy Memorial Hospital in San Antonio - TX. A Recruitment or Relocation Incentive may be authorized for a highly qualified candidate. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Base pay

$350,000.00/yr - $400,000.00/yr Summary

This position is open to qualified applicants in gastroenterology with opportunities for clinical practice and administrative duties as described in the qualifications and duties sections. Qualifications

To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed License: Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification Residencies: Approved by VA/ACGME or AOA or equivalent international residency with mandatory US practice experience as described; PRPs may be appointed under supervision PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred Experience: Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology and Hepatology Recent experience providing in/outpatient care of GI and hepatology patients in a complexity level 1a facility Proficient in general endoscopic procedures EUS and ERCP not required Recent VA experience preferred but not required Recent exposure to an academic education environment Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting - 15-44 pounds; Moderate carrying - 15-44 pounds; Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking 6 hrs; Standing 6 hrs; Repeated bending 2-4 hrs; Cognitive and sensory requirements as described Ability to perform privileges independently in exam and procedure settings Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) details available in Benefits Section Duties

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until January 20, 2026 or until all positions are filled. The first cut-off date is October 17, 2025. Responsibilities include clinical gastroenterology care, inpatient and consult service during designated tours, and involvement in administrative and leadership activities as applicable. Clinical duties: Maintain privileges and practice in specialty; standards and procedures approved by the Professional Standards Board. Patient care: Provide compassionate, appropriate, and effective care across health promotion, disease treatment, and end-of-life care when indicated. Clinical knowledge and judgment: Demonstrate knowledge of biomedical and clinical sciences; use evidence and methods to improve patient care. Interpersonal and communication skills: Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and health care team. Professionalism: Commit to professional development, ethics, diversity, and patient-centered care. Systems-based practice: Understand health care contexts and apply knowledge to improve health care delivery. Administrative duties: Participate in staff meetings, hospital committees, peer review, FPPE/OPPE, credentialing, and privileging processes. Leadership: May serve as Section Chief when applicable; communicate effectively with staff and leadership; oversee performance measures and quality improvement efforts. Human resources: Maintain VA training requirements and timely documentation for privileging and re-privileging. Staff management: FPPE/OPPE participation and routine medical record reviews. Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (subject to tour requirements).
