Assistant Instructor, Barber Academy
Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, Mission, Kansas, United States
Under the direction of the Coordinator & Lead Instructor, trains in all aspects of Barber Academy instruction and operation in preparation for taking and successfully passing the North Carolina Board of Barber Examiners (NCBBE) instructor permit examination.
Duties
Facilitates lesson plans, delivers lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises of complex nature, as they pertain to the criteria of the NCBBE. Facilitates client scheduling, student/client skill labs. Submits an application to the NCBBE for the instructor’s examination within the time frame of the position, not to exceed 6 months, and takes the instructor’s examination when scheduled by the NCBBE. Participates in coaching sessions with the Lead Instructor, studies, prepares, and completes assignments in a timely manner. Exhibits a general understanding of all aspects of barbering, including all chemical theories and applications with heightened attention to safety/hygiene due to the nature of the products consumed. Prepares the academy for daily scheduled events. Assists with class-related compliance documents such as attendance, grading, rosters, section changes, class schedules. Abides by all policies, procedures, and standards of the college, modeling behavior that demonstrates understanding and compliance, and abides by all policies, procedures, and standards of the NCBBE. Establishes and maintains a positive, effective working relationship with students, staff, faculty, and institutional representatives. Operates standard Academy equipment including PC, cameras, scanner, copier, clock hour software, client scheduling software, and washer/dryer. Utilizes technology, including email, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Moodle/Compass, Zoom, and other technology-based vehicles for training and communicating. Participates in regularly scheduled, documented evaluation sessions with Coordinator/Lead Instructor. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and Welcoming College statement. Supports workforce diversity in all its aspects. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements
Mandatory: High school diploma or equivalent. Mandatory: Barber School graduate. Mandatory: Minimum of two years of full-time or equivalent work experience as a licensed barber. Mandatory: Current North Carolina Registered Barber Permit. Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.
