Sr Principal Photonics Engineer - Optical Solutions Molex possesses a rich heritage in the optical industry. We provide high performing field-proven Si photonics solutions developed internally from PIC design, optical engine to optical transceiver module implementation. Molex is actively shipping in high volume based on Si photonics technology. We continuously innovate in device speed beyond 100GHz, scale PIC level integration with more functionalities, and enable co-packaged optics applications for high-density, high data capacity, and low power consumption optical module solutions for hyper-scale data centers and AI cluster applications.

We are looking for a Sr Principal Photonics Engineer focused on collaborating with industry design and foundry partners and internal design stakeholders to establish advanced photonics technology capabilities for innovative photonics device and PIC solutions. This role supports and leads programs devoted to the design, development, and applications of Si photonics technology, applying strong photonics principles and system-level thinking to integrate devices into a PIC that meets performance requirements while enabling manufacturable optical module production.

What You Will Do

Acquire expert level understanding of advanced Si photonics technology to explore innovation of new optical devices

Conduct thorough analysis of optical system requirements and define component specifications to ensure optical performance

Collaborate with industry design partners and internal/external customers to align on optoelectronic component and PIC design strategies

Assess process capabilities required for target component specifications

Conduct feasibility studies to verify new design strategies and propose novel technology development as needed

Collaborate with industry design partners and strategic customers in joint development on technology and/or PIC solutions

Work with multi-disciplinary design teams to ensure PIC design is validated to integrate with other critical components in optical mechanical and module fabrication processes, hardware circuitry, and controls

Mentor other engineers and cross-functional groups on implications of PIC design

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, Photonics or related technical field

At least 15 years of industry experience in designing or managing optoelectronics component design and development

At least 7 years of industry experience with Si photonics

Experience leading the development of Si photonics PIC solutions

Strong knowledge of high-speed optoelectronics device design

Good knowledge of CMOS semiconductor process

Good knowledge of semiconductor wafer backend and package ecosystem

Good knowledge of EDA or EPDA tools for PIC design, simulation, and tape-out process

Note: For this role, compensation range discussed includes $200,000 - $275,000 per year with eligibility for variable pay. Details are provided by the recruiter during the interview process.
