Salary Range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39 Overview
CLASS TITLE: Teacher CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required. Responsibilities
Provide instructional planning, including written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program. Establish positive learning expectation standards for all pupils and evaluate pupil progress; maintain current and accurate records of pupil achievements. Implement instructional methods by applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology; draw from available instructional materials; participate in development and implementation of new teaching techniques. Provide bulletin boards and interest areas reflecting pupils’ current work; apply knowledge of curriculum content related to subject areas and instructional level. Participate in programs to improve student attendance; promote anti-vandalism programs in the schools. Establish and maintain reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom and on school grounds in accordance with the Chicago Public Schools Uniform Discipline Code. Maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts; encourage student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept. Ensure fairness in teacher-pupil relationships; initiate conferences with parents/guardians, administrators, and/or ancillary personnel as required by school procedures. Communicate with parents or guardians and counsel pupils on academic progress, attendance, and conduct; participate in in-service and professional staff meetings. Coordinate and attend class field trips as needed; may participate in extra-curricular and after-school activities; utilize community resources. Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and all coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education. License Requirements: Possess at least one valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (Professional Educator License or Educator License with Stipulations), properly endorsed for this position. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skill: Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements; knowledge of contemporary teaching principles and classroom management techniques. Ability: Modify instruction to meet student needs; cooperate with faculty and administration in program development; work effectively with pupils, parents/guardians, staff, and community representatives; understand the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils. Skill: Apply contemporary teaching practices; good oral and written communication; strong interpersonal skills; sound professional judgment. Physical Requirements: Light work; ability to exert up to 20 pounds occasionally or 10 pounds frequently; may require reaching, handling, speaking, hearing, near and far visual acuity as described in the job posting.
