Role Description In this role, you will:
Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver a product customers love
Leverage a broad stack of technologies — Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and more — to reveal insights hidden within large volumes of numeric and textual data
Build machine learning models through all phases of development, from design through training, evaluation, validation, and implementation
Translate the complexity of your work into tangible business goals through strong interpersonal communication
The Ideal Candidate is:

Creative — thrives on defining big, undefined problems and sharing new ideas
Statistically-minded — has model-building experience, validation, and interpretation of metrics like confusion matrices or ROC curves; experience with clustering, classification, sentiment analysis, time series, and deep learning
A data guru — skilled at retrieving, combining, and analyzing data from diverse sources and structures; understands that data comprehension is key to great data science
Basic Qualifications:
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, one of the following with an expectation that the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date:
A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related) plus 5 years of data analytics experience
A Master's Degree in a quantitative field or MBA with a quantitative concentration plus 3 years of data analytics experience
A PhD in a quantitative field
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in a STEM field plus 3 years of data analytics experience, or PhD in a STEM field
At least 1 year of experience with AWS
At least 3 years of experience in Python and/or Scala
At least 3 years of experience with machine learning
At least 3 years of experience with SQL
At least 1 year of experience with retrieval augmented generation (RAG) AI workflows and evaluating GenAI outputs
Experience with vector databases for indexing text using chunking and embedding models

Compensation and Benefits The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries are for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and reflect the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on hours worked.
Plano, TX: $144,200 - $164,600 for Principal Associate, Data Science
McLean, VA: $158,600 - $181,000 for Principal Associate, Data Science
Richmond, VA: $144,200 - $164,600 for Principal Associate, Data Science
Riverwoods, IL: $144,200 - $164,600 for Principal Associate, Data Science
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range for that location; the actual salary offered will be in the offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
