Associate Attorney (Law & Motion) – California (Hybrid or Remote)

Location: San Diego, CA or Concord, CA

Schedule: Full-Time | Hybrid or Remote Option

Compensation: $100,000–$170,000 base + commission (DOE)

About The Opportunity A well-established California real estate law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney (Law & Motion) to join its landlord-tenant litigation team. This position offers the chance to contribute to a respected practice with more than four decades of service in the California legal community. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, exceptional writing ability, and a proactive approach to managing complex unlawful detainer matters.

This role offers flexibility — you may work remotely within California or in‑office from San Diego or Concord.

Key Responsibilities

Draft motions, oppositions, and legal pleadings related to unlawful detainer actions, including demurrers, motions to quash, strike, and set aside judgments.

Manage discovery processes, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, document requests, and subpoenas.

Prepare for trial by drafting briefs, motions in limine, exhibit lists, witness lists, and jury documents.

Negotiate stipulations and settlement agreements in coordination with clients and opposing counsel.

Conduct in-depth legal research and provide strategic recommendations to clients and attorneys.

Communicate with clients to deliver updates, address questions, and build lasting relationships.

Handle occasional court appearances and represent clients in hearings as needed.

Participate in property management and industry events to strengthen firm visibility and engagement.

Qualifications Required:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) and active California Bar membership.

Minimum 2 years of experience practicing law in California.

Working knowledge of civil litigation procedures and landlord‑tenant law.

Strong legal research and writing skills (LexisNexis or equivalent proficiency).

Experience drafting and arguing motions or conducting depositions.

Preferred:

Exposure to the rental housing industry.

Admission to the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California.

Experience with case management databases and discovery platforms.

Work Environment & Benefits

Standard hours: Monday–Thursday, 8:30 AM–5:30 PM; Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM.

Option to work fully remote or hybrid from any of the firm’s six California offices.
