This unique position offers the opportunity to apply your knowledge and expertise in Structural Engineering and evaluation of existing structures in a whole new way. Our growing Structural Engineering Department is seeking a qualified Engineer to lead our inspection teams. Geosyntec has a diverse set of clients and projects—bridges, dams, industrial processing and power facilities, heavy‑civil construction, controlled demolition engineering, earth‑retaining structures, harbors, piers, and wharfs—across the world. The role involves inspecting critical structures, contributing to load‑rating evaluations, and designing repairs, retrofits, and replacements. While the primary responsibility is structural inspection, you will also assist in evaluations and design of repairs/retrofits for structures at the end of their service life or under temporary conditions.

Preferred office locations are

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead inspection team for structural assessments.

Perform bridge load ratings.

Design retrofit and repair detailing.

Provide quality control of construction documents.

Train and mentor early‑ and mid‑career professionals in condition assessments and repair/retrofit design.

Serve as designer/analyst when required.

Conduct value engineering, third‑party design review, constructability review, and risk assessment.

Drive to client or company project sites as needed.

Education and Licensure

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural focus (required).

Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural) (preferred).

Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration (preferred).

Professional Structural Engineer (S.E.) registration (preferred).

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

At least 5 years of design experience in a structural environment (7+ preferred).

Minimum 2 years serving as a structural inspector or team leader (required).

Experience inspecting concrete, timber, and steel structures (required).

Experience designing repair/retrofit for concrete, steel, and timber structures (required).

Registered Bridge Inspection Team Leader (preferred).

Completion of the FHWA‑NHI‑130055 Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges course (preferred).

Bridge load rating experience (preferred).

Ability to sit for the NCEES 20‑Hour Structural Engineering exam within two years of hire (preferred).

Knowledge of structural design and detailing software (AASHTOWare, RISA, ETABS, RAM, SAP2000, SAFE, GSA, etc.) (required).

Knowledge of design collaboration software (Bluebeam Studio) and CAD/VDC/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.) (preferred).

Experience working within the construction sector or performing design work for contractors (preferred).

Ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast‑paced consulting environment (required).

Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record (required).

Current OSHA 10‑hr training (preferred).

Valid U.S. work authorization (required).

Compensation

Minimum Salary: $89,605/year / Maximum Salary: $134,465/year (Chicago, IL; Oak Brook, IL; Denver, CO)

Minimum Salary: $98,140/year / Maximum Salary: $147,275/year (Acton, MA)
