Lightmatter is seeking an experienced Opto‑Mechanical Engineer to join our Laser and Photonics Packaging Team. In this role, you will be responsible for the optical and mechanical design, component selection, and packaging of next‑generation laser and photonics modules, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Responsibilities

Lead the optical and mechanical design of laser modules and detachable connectors. Communicate design concepts, technical findings, and project status clearly. Contribute to optical design of lenses and FAU arrays, and possess a strong understanding of isolator technologies. Design packaging solutions for DFB lasers in Chip‑on‑Submount (CoS) configurations and for heterogeneously integrated III‑V on Silicon wafers. Ensure PIC designs are optimized for assembly processes such as wire bonding and flip‑chip bonding. Select critical components, including optical assemblies, electrical connectors and optical connectors. Collaborate with suppliers and OSATs (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) from prototype manufacturing through validation and into volume production. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration and successful product delivery. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 5+ years of hands‑on experience in opto‑mechanical design. Hands‑on experience with Zemax for optical design. Hands‑on experience with SolidWorks for 3D modeling. Experience collaborating with suppliers and OSATs from prototyping to volume production. Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Lumerical or other optical design software. Hands‑on experience with optical alignment and validation. Knowledge of optical modules in the datacom industry. Experience with hermetic and non‑hermetic packaging techniques. Compensation

We offer competitive compensation. The base salary range for this role is determined based on location, experience, educational background, and market data. Salary Range:

$227,000 – $262,000 USD Salary and compensation also include a new‑hire equity grant, annual performance‑based equity, and other rewards that recognize your impact and contribution. Benefits
