What You'll Do
We’re looking for an Investment Accountant to join our Principal Real Estate Investors team. In this role, our accounting team supports a diverse portfolio of commercial real estate investments nationwide. We're seeking an Investment Accountant who is eager to learn and grow within our Real Estate Investment platform. This role combines accounting expertise with opportunities to develop technical and systems knowledge to support our real estate investment operations.
Gain hands-on experience with property acquisitions, dispositions, and financing transactions
Learn and work with our Yardi accounting system and databases supporting real estate investment portfolios
Build understanding of supporting modules such as accounts payable and accounts receivable
Collaborate with financial reporting teams on monthly close processes and financial reporting
Opportunity to learn enterprise accounting systems and real estate specific applications
Develop understanding of property management platforms and core accounting systems
Learn to create and maintain financial reporting processes
Build knowledge of system controls and GAAP compliance requirements
Gain experience with various reporting tools for stakeholder communications
Work cross-functionally with accounting and treasury teams to ensure accurate and timely financial operations

Who You Are
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
Minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within asset management, investment accounting, or financial services
Advanced Excel skills and experience with reporting tools
Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Proven organizational and analytical skills with a commitment to accuracy, efficiency, and process improvement
Prior systems experience is not required - we value candidates who demonstrate curiosity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for learning new tools and processes to support our real estate accounting operations.

Salary Range Information Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly) $86,450 - $116,850 / year
Time Off Program Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments This role offers an in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangement in Des Moines, IA.
