Job Summary And Qualifications The Infection Preventionist/Infection Prevention Coordinator promotes and delivers high quality, patient-centered care by assisting with the administration of Infection Prevention policies, procedures and programs. As a part of the Infection Prevention team, the Infection Preventionist identifies, investigates, reports, and monitors the incidence of nosocomial infections among patients and personnel, and implements policies and procedures to prevent cross-contamination. The Infection Preventionist is also responsible for assisting with in‑service programs related to infection prevention and infection control, and with the clinical aspects of the Employee Health Program, including preemployment processing, occupational health testing and surveillance.

Responsibilities

Apply epidemiologic principles and statistical methods, including risk stratification and benchmarking, to identify target populations, determine risk factors, design prevention and control strategies, analyze trends, and evaluate processes.

Assist in coordinating prevention and containment efforts for potential infections, pandemics, and bioterrorist events.

Assist in the development, assessment, reassessment, and implementation of the Infection Control/Employee Health Plan, and review and update policies and protocols as needed to maintain compliance with regulations, standards and evidence‑based guidelines.

Assist in the organization and facilitation of regularly scheduled hospital Infection Prevention meetings and dissemination of recommendations, and attend regional meetings and other educational forums related to IP topics.

Assume responsibility for the appropriate allocation of hospital resources through effective and efficient infection control, consistent with the Joint Commission standards, governmental regulations, and third‑party payer requirements.

Serve as a resource to hospital personnel and medical staff on patient placement, isolation, and other interventions to control or reduce infections or infectious risks among patients, personnel, medical staff and visitors.

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree required. Masters or MPH preferred.

Valid California RN license.

Certification in Infection Control (when eligible).

Completion of CDC coursework or equivalent within established time frame.

Minimum two years’ experience in acute hospital care.

Current knowledge of and skill in infection control and prevention, collection, statistical analysis, and report formatting.

Riverside Community Hospital is a large acute care facility with 517 beds, established in 1901. It has the most extensive Emergency Room and Level I Trauma Center in the Inland Empire region and is the primary recipient of STEMI (heart attack) cases in Riverside County. The hospital is accredited as a Chest Pain Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center and has a HeartCare Institute that offers both invasive and non‑invasive cardiac procedures.
