Substance Abuse Counselor – Campus Facility Services
Location: Coastal State Probation, 200 Gulfstream Rd, Garden City, GA 31418, USA
Position Type: Full‑time, Monday‑Thursday, 10‑hour shift
Salary: $20.50–$21.50 per hour (non‑credentialed) or $25.00–$27.00 per hour (credentialed). Sign‑on bonus $3,000 for credentialed or licensed counselors.
Overview Gateway Foundation is a national non‑profit dedicated to helping individuals with substance use and mental health disorders. The Substance Abuse Counselor will provide individualized and group counseling, conduct assessments, coordinate treatment plans, and work within a correctional facility to support client recovery.
Responsibilities
Conduct client interviews and assess substance use disorder and treatment history.
Evaluate treatment response and recommend modifications to individualized treatment plans.
Provide didactic group counseling (psychoeducation, drug education, family education).
Offer individual counseling for relapse prevention, problem solving, behavior modification, anger management.
Carry a caseload of up to 25 clients per state and contract requirements.
Collaborate with supervisors to develop discharge summaries, continuing‑care, and relapse‑prevention plans.
Coordinate crisis services and address emergencies to support ongoing recovery.
Maintain treatment records, reports, and administrative documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
Perform office duties (answer telephone, file, fax, plan events, assemble intake packets).
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a helping profession from an accredited college or university.
Preferable counseling experience; experience with substance use or mental health treatment preferred.
Must obtain a state‑approved certification within 30 months (e.g., Certified Addiction Counselor (GACA/NAADAC/ICRC), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS)).
Must obtain appropriate licensing (LPC, LAPC, LCSW, LMFT, CPCS) or equivalent certification.
Must obtain a Georgia Department of Corrections clearance.
Physical Requirements
Work in a correctional facility.
Walk and move about for up to two hours, monitor and interact with clients.
Lift, carry, push, pull objects up to 10 lb occasionally.
Use a keyboard and video terminal, proofread documents, respond to phones; detect alarms and unusual noises.
