Paraeducator – Special Education
Multiple positions available for the 2025/2026 School Year!
Positions are typically 5.75 hours per day and 183 days per year. The role is under general supervision, providing instruction to individual or small groups of students, reinforcing lessons, and supporting students with special needs.
Responsibilities
Reinforce classroom instruction for individual or small groups as directed by the teacher.
Follow and implement IEP goals and associated treatment plans.
Assist students with academic skills in reading, spelling, math, and social studies.
Provide services to students with specialized needs, including personal and health care support.
Observe and control student behavior, reporting progress to the teacher.
Assist with lifting and positioning students in wheelchairs, braces, and other orthopedic equipment.
Help students with toileting, diapering, dressing, bathing, and grooming as needed.
Accompany students to and from school buses and other activities on the school site.
Assist with medical procedures such as suctioning, tube feeding, catheterization, colostomy care, oxygen administration, and emergency care.
Help students and teachers use instructional software and related peripherals.
Prepare instructional materials and set up classroom displays and exhibits.
Collaborate with teachers on program and material selection.
Ensure students’ health and safety by following all safety rules and performing general clean-up.
Maintain confidential student records and other required documentation.
Provide travel and interpretation assistance for non‑English speaking parents/families as assigned.
Perform CPR and First Aid as required.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
High‑school diploma or equivalent; or completion of at least two years of college (48 semester units or 60 quarter units), an associate’s degree, or a passing score on a Performance Assessment administered by the Personnel Commission.
One year of experience working with school‑age students with special needs in an educational, health, or childcare setting.
Valid California driver’s license.
CPR and first aid certification.
For some positions, bilingual certification and/or ability to communicate in Spanish is required.
