About the Position Accomplishes a variety of duties in the protection of life and property, including law enforcement, crime prevention, investigation and public assistance. Officers may have different duty assignments and work experiences. The department offers competitive pay, expanded career opportunities, and upward mobility. For Police Academy Graduates, additional training and experience are provided to start a career in law enforcement.
Important Proof of California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy or Basic P.O.S.T. Course Waiver completion must be attached to the application. Required attachments will not be accepted after submission.

Additional Path for Non-P.O.S.T. Graduates If you have not completed the California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy or obtained a Basic P.O.S.T. Course Waiver, you may apply for the Law Enforcement Trainee (Police Officer Trainee) position.

Education, Training and Experience
A high school diploma or GED equivalent
Must be at least 21 years of age
Successful completion of the California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy Course or a Basic P.O.S.T. Course Waiver
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements
Valid Class C California driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability; out-of-state applicants require a valid driver’s license. A Class C license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (CA Vehicle Code 12405c)
Free of felony convictions
U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien eligible for citizenship
Fingerprinted for criminal history checks
Of good moral character as determined by a background investigation
Free from physical, emotional, or mental conditions that might affect duties
Physical Demands Regularly required to use hands and fingers, reach, stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and lift up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus.
Work Environment May work outdoors or in an office environment. Noises level varies by assignment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable performance of essential functions.

Principles and practices of municipal police administration
Police requirements and limitations of authority
Laws governing custody, search and seizure, evidence admissibility, and court procedures

Perform various clerical duties and follow instructions
